The Antigua region

Antigua promises visitors that “The beach is just the beginning”, Rolling green hills, picturesque villages, a lush and enchanted stretch of rainforest and the most beautiful, pristine beaches imagined paint the landscape of Antigua. Indeed, the 365 beautiful white sandy beaches are only a small part of what makes this still original and charming little island so attractive and popular with guests from all over the world.

The capital of Antigua is St. John's and easily distinguished by its landmark, the impressive white baroque towers of St. John's Anglican cathedral, first built in 1843. The St. John's market is a great opportunity to marvel at exotic spices, fruits, vegetables and fish that come in all forms and colors. The town is a charming mixture of old and new. There is a cruise ship port and duty free shopping not far from the historic museum and picturesque Redcliffe Quay, where restored old warehouses now host a variety of lovely little shops and cafes.

Before its independence in 1981, Antigua was an English colony and historic buildings and hulks scattered all over the island are remaining witnesses of this bygone era. Nelson's Dockyard located in the south in English Harbour is the only preserved Georgian Yacht Harbor in the world and the island's most famous relic.

Both harbours are situated in beautiful landscapes and become quite active in April during Antigua's famous annual Sailing Week. English Harbour and Galley Bay is a the region where Rental Butler features some of their most exclusive villas on island. Another location with stylish, luxurious properties and breathtaking views is Jolly Harbour on the West Coast.

The units have two bedrooms and two bathrooms which make it great for traveling with an older parent (as we did or with children). We had a 2nd floor unit with a lovely view. The beach is short but be… More

"Good but not great"

I flew back home early because staying at Runaway Bay I got so badly bitten by mosquitoes and spiders that I couldn't stand it any more. I couldn't sleep and spent 3 days scratching myself. … More

"great beach, great Italian restaurant next door, apartment disappointing"

On our 3rd visit to Antigua we stayed at Barrymore Beach apartment 8a in Nov 2012. Location not bad, a little out of the way, but taxis not too expensive. The Italian restaurant next door - La Bussola is one of the best we have been to. Everything we tried was delicious. In fact I think we went about 5 times! Another restaurant must is La Bistro - excellent. Barrymore beach is lovely and quiet however I did find the apartment rather shabby and in urgent need of re-furbishment and I was very disappointed with it. You also need a phone to arrange taxis and make restaurant bookings. It did not spoil our holiday though and Antigua is very beautiful.

It is unfortunate that these guests were not staying there from next week. I paid a deposit on new living room furniture for this apartment about 6 weeks ago, and was told earlier this week that it should be delivered in a few days. I will post new photos on the listing once it is in place.
