The South East England / Hertfordshire region

South East England is rich in culture and so there is plenty to see and do. North Hertfordshire is rural with excellent transport links so it has the best of both worlds as it is accessible to North & Central London (45 mins by train from Royston to London Kings Cross) and Cambridge is only 12 miles away, yet it is still rural and very pretty. Being the most northerly village in Hertfordshire we are a stones throw from the county borders for both Cambridgeshire and Essex. This means that East Anglia is easily accessible, Cambridge, Newmarket Races, Ely & Wicken Fen, Audley End House, Wimpole and Hatfield Houses and the Imperial War Museum at Duxford just being a few of the places you could visit during your holiday. And, if you fancy popping into the West End to see a show that's easily accessible too!
The Royston / Barley area
Duxford Air Museum is a wonderful place to visit and of course has regular air shows throughout the year, it is 5 miles away. Audley End House and Gardens is a beautiful place to visit (8 miles) and regularly has Proms / Musical Evenings and other events. Newmarket Races and Newmarket Nights are fun throughout the season and there is alot to see in Newmarket regarding the history of racing. The village itself has horse riding stables and we have Nuthampsted Shooting Ground and Barkway Park Golf course nearby. We also boast a Rally Driving School locally for an adrenilin boost! There are many beautiful walks and villages in the area and excellent cycling and very importantly lots of lovely places to eat and relax. A days sightseeing and shopping in Cambridge is usually high on guest's 'to do' list as are the many Nationall Trust properties in the area together with ancient villages such as Thaxted, Lavenham and Arkesden. We have a comprehensive Guest information file of local events and information.

I stayed at the Laurels Holiday Cottage for a weekend with my girlfriend - we both found it to be very comfortable, and well furnished. The bed was luxuriously comfortable, and the kitchen met our needs very well (I cooked dinner for us one night and had everything I needed there). The place is very pretty, and in a small village, which feels wonderfully peaceful. In all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone. |
