Plenty of local produce available. Our neighbour is a wine farmer. He makes superb white, red and rosé wine and white and pink sparkly that is every bit as good as any top champagne. Go and have a wine tasting ... he will love to talk to you about his vineyards and his wine. You haven't far to go to buy your holiday wine or to buy to take home ! Very Inexpensive prices too. The Poitou-Charentes/Vendee region
Civrac is located in the Charente Maritime area of France. The Charente Maritime sweeps down the west of France, with 300 miles of coastline, long sandy beaches with exciting surf or the calm waters of a wide choice of sheltered coves, scented pine woods and attractions and facilities for all ages.
It is an important vineyard region with many of the grapes harvested for the big Cognac houses. Charentais wine is produced in the region as are Bordeaux wines with Cote de Blaye and Cote de Bourg close by. St. Emilion is a pretty town and a great place to go for a day trip. Across the Gironde Estuary are the famous vineyards of St. Estephe, Margaux, Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac, etc. on the Medoc. This is a great experience for wine lovers and an easy day out from Civrac.
Our neighbour in Civrac produces excellent white, red and rosé wines which are available bottled, in boxes or en vrac (take your own container and he will fill it !). We also highly recommend his sparkly wines white and rosé which are every bit as good as any champagne. He also produces Pineau ... a local aperitif fortified wine a bit like a port or sherry. His mother sells the most delicious home produced honey.
There are lots of lovely sandy beaches to choose from ..........the sheltered coves of Meschers, the long sandy beaches of St Georges de Didonne and Royan, the attractive family seaside resorts around St Palais sur Mer and Vaux sur Mer and the wild beaches on the other side with their huge Atlantic rollers. All from 20 mins to 50 mins. away from Civrac. Some beaches have children's clubs in the main holiday season with lots to keep the kids amused.
There is a superb indoor/outdoor swimming pool shaped like a lagoon in tropical surroundings in Jonzac 20 mins. away. It has a wave machine, jacuzzi and water slide. Part of this complex offers saunas, Turkish baths, massage and other treatments plus a workout centre.
This is the region of France which has the best record for sunshine after the South of France.
There are many interesting, historic towns to discover such as Cognac, Bordeaux, Saintes, La Rochelle etc. etc.
Lots of cycle paths and tracks nearby and lovely walking country.
