The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Vaucluse region

The local area is known for it's stunning scenery, which provides unforgettable scenes, as well as serious challenges to climbers, cyclists and hikers. Or for something a little different, how about some hot air ballooning in nearby St Saturnin les Apt!

The area is dotted with picturesque small villages, each one with its own unique character and history, many holding markets and summer festivals. Of particular note are the unusual 'hill top' villages, such as Gordes and Les Baux de Provence.

If you fancy a bit of history, there's Avignon with the Palace Of The Popes and some of the finest Medieval architecture in Europe, or for a Roman theme, there's St Remy De Provence and Pont Du Garde nearby. Each of the towns and villages also has its own unique place in history, and it's still possible to walk the narrow winding streets of days gone by.

Alternatively, a visit to larger towns such as Apt, Isle Sur La Sorgue (famous for its anitque shops) and Cavaillon (famous for its melons) provides loads of opportunity for a whole host of activities, including theatre, shopping and bustling markets.

Roussillon area

Roussillon is classified as ‘One of the most Beautiful Villages in France’. It is situated in the midst of Peter Mayles famed Provencal landscapes.

It has a lovely 16th Century church at its centre and enough small shops and facilities (eg boulangeries, post office, cafes and restaurants) to keep most visitors well stocked on whatever they need. There is also a weekly market on a Thursday which is well worth a visit.

There are endless possibilities for different activities in the area; Walking through the famous Red Ochre forest surrounding the village, cycling the pathways of the Luberon Regional Park, horse riding in nearby Joucas.
Restaurants are abundant both in the the village and in the surrounding countryside.

How to get there

By Car - The village of Roussillon lies just 12 kms away from Apt, about 20kms from Cavaillon and Carpentras. Avignon and Aix-en-Provence are 50 minutes drive and Marseille airport is just over the hour.

By Air – Avignon (serviced only from Southampton/Exeter), Marseille and Nimes Airports (serviced by Ryanair) are the nearest - approximately 60 minutes drive away maximum

By Train - The high speed TGV service runs directly from London or Paris to Avignon, approximately 50 minutes away
