The Dorset region
The West Country is known to have the most sunny and warmest days of the year in the UK, which is one of the things that make it the best farming country in England for Lamb and Beef. Resulting in beautifully kept countryside with smaller fields increasing hedgerows and ancient grasslands all help to produce a wide variety of wildlife from Seahorses to Majestic Red Deer.
Indeed the garden setting of our lodge has been lovingly cared for over 30 years to encourage wildlife to such an extent we achieved a David Bellamy Conservation Award in 2009 & 2010.
I have lived and worked in this area on and off for over 25 years, all though not raised here I consider the West Country my home in the UK so can answer most questions about the area.
There is so much to offer, with the two Moors and over 500 miles of beautiful coast line, including Dorset's famous World Heritage Jurassic coast, of which Lyme Regis could be described as the inspirational heart.
Lyme Regis is an historic unspoiled seaside resort and fishing port on the world famous Cobb harbour.
The area has now been awarded World Heritage Site Status; famous for its geology and fossil finds.
There is always something going on whether it is the Goose fair in Colyford or the Sidmouth music festival or the Axminster flower show or burning barrels in Ottery St Mary.
The Devon and Dorset county show grounds are less than an hour away.
There are adventure parks, Escot ( www.escot-devon.co.uk ) and Crealy ( www.crealy.co.uk ) only 30 min away and Longleat ( www.longleat.co.uk ) about 90 minuets.
You are also near to some great towns and cities;
Dorchester 29 miles the home of Thomas Hardy,
Weymouth and Portland 32 miles with its marinas wind and kite surfing and the up and coming sailing Olympics.
Exeter 25 miles with its Cathedral and new shopping centre.
Bridport 14 miles has a good market day.
Axminster 6 miles the home of carpets and the River Cottage Canteen.
Beer 6 miles is a charming seaside village with (great crab sandwiches on the beach not sandy) there is a model railway.
Or if your a real foodie Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's River Cottage HQ is just over the hill, where they have a cookery school and various events. ( www.rivercottage.net )
Dartmoor and Exmoor are both within reach as well as the Eden centre ( www.edenproject.com )
There is loads more to discover from rock climbing to flying, Zorbing or deep sea fishing.

Stayed for a week in Aug. Jasmine Lodge has combined living, dining and kitchen area plus bathroom and 2 bedrooms. All very clean and comfortable, well equipped with kitchen utensils, pots and pans etc. It is great for those wanting a quiet family holiday. Everyone was very friendly both staff and other guests. Pools were great - no slides or flumes etc. but available from about 8am (I think) - 7pm. Outdoor pool is heated too.
Lodges are set in circles with a grass area in the middle, one area has putting holes and a small playground. Main reception has a few toys and games which can be borrowed too.
There is no on-site shop and no entertainment so if you want kids clubs daytime entertainment laid on and evening shows or a bar it won't be for you. But for those who want a quiet, relaxing time, put the kids to bed and do a bit of reading etc. it's fab.
Unfortunately the Wi-Fi could not be picked up in the lodge but you can go to the conservatory by reception to login when needed. This did mean it was not so convenient for planning days out but there were plenty of leaflets in the lodge and in reception.
We self catered (you would need to drive to eat out), did shopping for the week in Tesco and then just topped up with milk etc. in Rousden and that worked well for us.
Charmouth beach is more gritty than sandy but the guided fossil hunt walk was great. Lyme Regis is very pretty and only a few miles away.
We loved it.

"Very warm, cosy, clean and well equipped lodge. Would highly recommend!"
Jasmine lodge was very easy to find and in a great location.
We had a warm welcome by the reception and the lodge was pre heated ready for our arrival with tea, coffee and biscuits at the ready.
We were very impressed how clean throughout the lodge was.
There were some great walks for our dogs and a very short drive to the fossil beach.
The lodge was equipped with everything you need for cooking, cleaning products, spare bedding, even a needle and thread and a pack of playing cards.
The location was very quite and great views.
There is an out door and indoor heated swimming pool which looked great but unfortunately we did not have time to use (but will next time)
It was a great way to see in the New Year with our friends and our dogs!
Would highly recommend! *****

"Perfect retreat: very clean, cosy, well-equipped and tranquil, with access to heated indoor and outdoor pools."
We knew we had discovered a gem as soon as we arrived: a grassy circle of log cabins sheltered by trees and hedges with ample room in between. Very peaceful: cars tucked away in car parks but within close, easy reach. Jasmine Lodge overlooks a cluster of birch trees and an inviting wooden bench, and we loved sipping a glass of something as the sun went down or eating dinner al fresco in the evening sunshine on the veranda, sitting at the large table on chairs with cushions provided - it's those small touches we liked. The lodge was homely and immaculately clean throughout with a comfy sofa, reclining armchair and cosy coal-effect fire in the sitting area. Very well-equipped kitchen including thoughtful additions such as extension lead for hair drier (supplied) and a tray of good coffee and tea, biscuits and milk - very welcome after a long journey. Bedrooms on the small side but perfectly adequate; bathroom tiled, gleaming and very good standard. Access to the wonderfully warm indoor and outdoor pools, included in the price, was the icing on the cake, with their simple but very clean facilities and hot showers. A small site, well-tended and organised, very green and pretty, with an attractive lay-out and friendly, accommodating staff. We look forward to our next visit to Jasmine Lodge!
