Gite | 5 bedrooms | sleeps 14
Welcome to Les Hirondelles. After years of big family holidays abroad in a range of Gites around France we made a decision to create our own ‘French experience’ and in 2004 bought a mere shell of a Farmhouse which we have painstakingly transformed into this spacious and extremely well-equipped holiday house which suits us down to the ground as we hope it will you.
An extremely well equipped, self-catering French farmhouse in tranquil location with private pool and large terrace for al fresco living. The large, partially covered terrace is perfect for long relaxing lunches as the children play in the garden, pool and games room (new for summer 2012). A perfect place for families and friends seeking relaxation. Ideally located for cycling, walking and exploring the Charente.

There is a lot of space around Les Hirondelles. The large terrace runs the length of the house and is partially covered providing welcome shade. The views from the terrace are stunning especially when the adjacent field is a sea of sunflowers.
There's a built in barbecue and large table and chairs for outdoor dining. Within close proximity and view of the terrace is a 10 x 5 metre swimming pool with automated safety cover. There is a large grassed area and a selection of recliners and sun loungers for your use.
At the back of the house is a large parking area and a walled garden - ideal for an early evening glass of chilled rose.
And new for summer 2012 is a games room with snooker/pool table, table tennis, darts etc.
The swimming pool is open from end of May to mid October depending on weather.
Changeover day is Saturday though can be flexible if required.
The Poitou-Charentes/Vendee region
The Charente is easily accessible from the channel ports. The drive takes about 8 hours on the usually empty French roads. Poitiers, La Rochelle, Angouleme, Limoges, Bergerac and Bordeaux airports are all within easy reach. It's a very rural area with sleepy villages, fields of sunflowers, neat rows of vines and meandering rivers. The area is ideal for walking and cycling.
Rouillac is the closest town providing all the amenities required for a holiday - supermarkets, restaurants, pharmacy, doctors. outdoor pool, boules area etc. The ving-sept market is a true spectacle which occurs on the 27th of each month.
The nearest village is Gourville which has a general store, bakers and cafe. Aigre is a pretty town within easy reach which has markets, bars, restaurants, tennis courts etc.
There's horse riding, trips down the river, riverside restaurants a great water park (Nautilus) just outside Angouleme - lots to do!

"Marvellous house. Everything we expected and more."
We stayed here with our family (6 adults and 2 children) last July and had a wonderful stay. The keys were sent to us by post in the UK, which was very handy as we weren't sure exactly what time we were arriving. We had a phone number for a local contact but didn't need to use it, although a maintenance man did pop round during our stay to check on the pool. What we loved most was the amount of space we had, both inside and out. The kids loved the pool while we lazed and barbecued on the enormous veranda taking in the view and the peace and quiet in this small village. The house is very nicely furnished and was spotless when we arrived. The games room was welcome but not used much as the weather was so good. Overall we can highly recommend this lovely house and we're very jealous that it's not ours.

"Relaxing location, comfortable and well equipped house."
A beautiful house, really nicely renovated.
Comfortable beds and lots of choice so we could organise where we would all sleep. Plenty of room for 2 families, we were 4 adults and 4 young children. 2 lovely shower rooms and a family bathroom.
Well equipped kitchen with lovely big tables so we could all eat together indoor or on the terrace. Comfortable sofas/chairs to sit on inside and out. Gorgeous (if a bit chilly when we were there) pool area and plenty of sunbeds. Pool has a really good cover so we felt the children were safe playing in the garden.
Close enough to a town with big supermarkets for everything we needed. Very peaceful and quiet village location with stunning views over the sunflower fields.
