The South East England / Sussex region

We enjoy a moderate mostly sunny climate which is often considerably better than on the north side of The Downs. Rottingdean is known as an ancient Smuggler's Village and is also known as the home of Rudyard Kipling who wrote many of his books here. Burne-Jones the painter lived here and also Edith Bagnold the writer of The National Velvet. The sea is on our doorstep and In this part of southern England there are many castles, gardens and stately homes to visit as well as the beautiful South Downs. In a matter of minutes you can enjoy the delights of the cosmopolitan City of Brighton & Hove. The ancient County town of Lewes is about a 20 minute drive and the sunny seaside resort of Eastbourne is a 45 minute car ride away. All these places including the very long beach at nearby Seaford and Newhaven(with ferries to France) can be reached by a regular bus services as well as by car.

Rottingdean area

Rottingdean has an annual Village Fayre on the first Saturday in August. Nearby Brighton hosts a large Arts Festival during May as well as many other events during the year and has an excellent theatre. Rottingdean has a large beach for summer sea bathing and also a long undercliff walk into Brighton or east towards Saltdean. There are also a number of country walks nearby including the 'Windmill Walk' on Beacon Hill. There are many National Trust & English Heritage properties within the area,

Rottingdean, which is only 3 miles from Brighton & Hove, can be reached by car without driving through Brighton. From a Northerly direction take the M23/A23 but 3 miles North of Brighton at the A27 junction turn towards Lewes. After 2 miles take the left slip road at Falmer leading on to the B2123 road through Woodingdean. Upon arrival in Rottingdean 'Lizzie Loves' flat can be found right in the centre of the village at the bottom of Nevill Road.
