Walks start from the cottages doorstep to the nearby charming village of Thropton, to National Trusts Cragside House and Gardens and it is only a very scenic 2 mile walk to the popular village of Rothbury .
Thropton has a well stocked village shop selling local produce and two friendly pubs, both serving food
This charming cottage makes a great base from which to explore Northumberland.
After a day out relax in the front garden and enjoy the uninterrupted views of the village and the Simonside Hills or enjoy summer evenings in the mature rear garden with fire pit and barbecue..
Built in 1923 Hilltop Cottage once belonged to the Maling family famous for their sought after high quality luster ware pottery.
With its high ceilings this sunny cosy Northumberland cottage retains many of its original features including the inglenook fireplace complete with wood burning stove in the light and spacious lounge/dining room.

The Northumberland Heritage Coast is within an easy drive. Visit Warkworth with its sandy beach and imposing medieval castle or nearby picturesque Alnmouth.Further up the coast visit Craster and sample its famous kippers then carry on to the quaint working fishing villages of Beadnell and Seahouses where you can take boat trips ( in season) to visit the bird and seal colonies of the Farne Islands.A visit to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne , only reached by a causeway at low tide, is a must.
The Border town of Berwick-Upon- Tweed and the vibrant cities of Newcastle and Edinburgh are within driving distance, or why not leave the car and take the regular main line train service from Alnmouth?
A cosy sunny cottage Hilltop is a lovely place to stay within reach of all that Northumberland has to offer.
The Rothbury / Thropton area
Throptons central location in Northumberland means that many fascinating attractions are within a short drive of this lovely Northumberland self catering cottage. Visit the nearby Market Town of Alnwick with its cobbled streets, Castle and Gardens with stunning contemporary water features. The World famous Barter Books home of Keep Calm and Carry On is housed in the former Railway Station and is a great place to spend a relaxing few hours browsing through the huge selection of books whilst enjoying a coffee or snack. .
The lovely village of Rothbury only 2 miles away has a wide range of shops including an award winning butchers, two delicatessens and an antiques centre. Rothbury has three Art Galleries showcasing the work of local artists and hosts numerous events throughout the year including the Rothbury Walking Festival 23rd June- 30Th June 2012 and the very popular Traditional Music Festival 13Th - 15Th July 2012. Rothbury has a selection of welcoming cafes and restaurants to suite all tastes.
National Trusts Cragside is nearby with its house, once home to Lord Armstrong the famous Victorian industrialist and inventor , and extensive ornamental grounds with 40 miles of footpaths and beautiful lakes.
Enjoy walks by the banks of the River Coquet or in the heather clad surrounding hills. Popular Guided Walks that bring the history of the Northumberland to life can be booked before or during your stay. Cycle hire, swimming, tennis, fishing (permit required) and an 18 hole riverside golf course are all available in Rothbury.

A non-refundable 30% deposit plus booking fee of £25.00 when payable ( fee may be nil - see special offers throughout the year ) must be paid at time of booking .
The prices shown are for weekly lets commencing on Saturdays in high season and Fridays in low season and, when available, three-night Friday-to-Monday weekend and four-night Monday-to-Friday midweek short breaks.
If a week is part booked already, the displayed price will be for either a three-night Friday-to-Monday weekend or a four-night Monday-to-Friday midweek short break taken during the part week remaining.
A booking fee of £25.00 per cottage is payable in addition to the prices shown.
