The Cider Loft Self Catering Cottage at Symonds Yat, near Ross-on-Wye
Used in the 19th century as living area for farm workers making cider, with privy and dormer windows.
With the high-pitched ceiling formed from roughly hewn trusses and rafters, the cider loft lives up to its name. The low door frames are part of the character!
The spacious accommodation, is approached from the side of the hill, so although it is situated above the Apple Store, the entrance is at garden level. Comprising: open plan lounge, dining room and fully fitted kitchen all on one level, two steps take you from the entrance hall into a double bedroom, bathroom with bath and overhead shower.

The Heart of England/Peak District
The Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) was first designated in 1971, covering 128 square miles from Mordiford near Hereford, through Ross-on-Wye, Symonds Yat and on to Chepstow in the south. It is an internationally important protected landscape, one of the most dramatic and scenic areas in southern Britain. It is the only AONB to straddle the border between England and Wales. Whitchurch and Symonds Yat sits in the heart of the valley with great walks and kayaking on your doorstep.
Ross on Wye
Whitchurch and Symonds Yat offers great access to all that the Wye valley has to offer with Yat Rock being the iconic viewpoint.
Symonds Yat Rock overlooks a spectacular gorge through which the River Wye snakes. This rock is the perfect viewpoint from which to watch raptors. A pair of Peregrine Falcons that nest annually within sight of the rock can be watched through telescopes set up by the RSPB. Buzzards, goshawks and hobbies are also regularly seen and it is sometimes possible to see migrant raptors such as ospreys and European Honey Buzzards.
Approximately six miles from the town of Ross-on-Wye and three miles from Monmouth, the villages are a hive of activity and a popular spot for taking forest walks, canoeing, fishing, taking a cruise along the River Wye or enjoying a cream tea. There are traditional rope ferries, which are moored at the Saracen's Head Inn and the Ferry Inn and crosses the river regularly, taking passengers between the two villages. As well as being a pleasurable experience, this short crossing saves a five mile journey by road.
Canoeing and kayaking on the River Wye is a popular local activity, mainly during the summer months but it is also an all year round activity for the more hardy and adventurous. You can either use your own craft or canoes can be hired to make the journey, which you may like to take a few days to complete, camping along the route. You can, of course, do only part of the journey, hiring a canoe for a day or part day....
Nearby in the Forest of Dean are some of the best downhill biking facilities in the country, bring your own bike or hire one on site, the choice is yours and there is even a service to take you and your bike back up to the top of the hill if you want.
Great days out can be had with visits to castles such as Goodrich, Raglan and Chepstow which are steeped in history. Tintern Abbey is a short 15 minute drive away and is a magical place to visit sitting on the banks of the Wye. We have easy access to the Brecon Beacons and the Malverns with great walks on offer. Take a tour round the Spa town of Cheltenham or enjoy the world famous book festival at Hay on Wye all are just a short drive away.
We look forward to welcoming you to this great area and can provide great ideas and local maps and information to help plan your stay.

Thank you for leaving a review, we were disappointed that you did not mention your concerns during your stay, although near to a road we have had hundreds of totally happy guests stay at the Cider Loft who have never mentioned the road as an issue.
We have many people book year after year who enjoy the location and all it has to offer. The garden did need some attention after many days of rain and indeed as soon as the rain had stopped, I was out there as usual making sure that the cottage was tended to.
We love sharing our home and cottages with guests and are exceptionally proud of the Cider Loft. Again sorry you were not totally happy and wished you would have shared your thoughts with us during your stay as we could have discussed them together. All the best.

You certainly enjoyed the best few days of the spring/summer to date and we hope there are many more sunny days to come. We often walk to the seven sisters and think the views from there are simply stunning.
