Cottage | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 6
La Bou is a unique and secluded Cottage set on nearly one acre of Dominican Jungle. This unique retreat was envisioned and lovingly built from the ground up by a Swiss artist and his wife. Together, they dug the holes, cut the wood and mixed the cement. It was to be their own private retreat and that fact shows throughout. The design details you will encounter here are simply amazing. Everything is very well designed and solidly constructed, using the finest local and imported materials available on Dominica. The building is now 8 years old, but has been privately owned and extremely well maintained all these years. It has never before been available to let.
The entire compound is comprised of three separate buildings. First is the Main House, a one bedroom concrete and wood home that houses the kitchen, the living room, the pantry, the office and the master bedroom. In the extension, you will find the closet, the toilet and the bathroom. On the exterior of this building are two separate showers, one enclosed and one fully open to the elements.
Further down in the garden, you will find the newly constructed Entertainment Area, which features a large BBQ pit, a custom fire place, a large dining room table with 6 benches, a sink with running water, a cooker and 12V lights.
The second bedroom is actually the third building on the retreat. This building has been nicknamed The Bird House by European visitors, because it strongly resembles one. This building is built in the garden, a little uphill from the main house. It features a comfortable Queen size bed, a toilet, a wardrobe, a ceiling fan, reading lights, and even a disco ball. It has its own private entrance and is lockable from the inside as well as from the outside, thereby guaranteeing privacy for the occupants. This building can be rented as a stand-alone cottage for a lower price. It is very romantic room, so it is perfect for an adventurous young couple.
La Bou is set amidst hundreds of acres of local farm land, and looks to be covered in tropical jungle. Every farmer has a large plot of land where they cultivate coconuts, cocoa tree, bananas, dasheen, pineapples, etc. Further down the road is Soufriere, a quaint sleepy fishing village. That is the perfect place to pick up your fresh lobster and fish for the BBQ parties. Come find yourself at our secret retreat.

The Saint Mark, Dominica region
Situated in the southwest area of Dominica, this area is mostly rural farm land and small local fishing villages. Being here is like being 30 years in the past. Bottles are still refilled, bags of brown sugar are filled by hand from a 50 lb. sack and all the fruit and vegetables you eat come straight from your neighbors yard. As a matter of fact, a lot of what you will eat grows in your own garden. La Bou's one acre garden features banana trees, ruby red grape fruit trees, orange trees, pineapple plants, lime trees, etc.
This area was previously in the hands of plantation owners who grew coffee, cacao, sugar and bananas. Many of the plants and ruins are still visible in the area.
This area is the furthes south on Dominica. Scottshead Marine Reserve spans as far as the eye can see. Everything that is not ocean is lush green. Green, free and more green. Everything is lush jungle and it takes quite a bit of effort to keep the plants at bay. Here everyone has a machete and spends a large part of his/her day cutting back the jubglr that constantly tires to invade on all developed properties. This is a real country setting, hence the name: La Bou Country Cottage.
