The Costa de Almeria region
The property is located in the Almerķa province of southern Spain, it is bordered by the provinces of Granada, Murcia, and the Mediterranean Sea and is home to europe's only desert. The region (which is the driest in Europe) attracts plenty of visitors each year, indeed tourism is a key sector of the economy, due to the sunny weather and attractive areas such as Roquetas de Mar, Aguadulce, Almerimar, Vera or Cabo de Gata.
The capital of the region is the city of Almeria, and was founded by Abd ar-Rahman III of Cordoba, in 955, as a principal harbor in his extensive domain to strengthen his Mediterranean defenses. The name "Almerķa" stems from Al-Mariyat: "The Mirror of the Sea", in Arabic.
Roquetas de Mar / Enix area
The imediate area offers plenty for all visitors. Naturally, the golf is a huge draw and the local area boasts a number of superb clubs, La Envia is on your doorstep, Playa Senna is 20 minutes away, Alberon is 25 and Almerimar 35. The enthusiast is spoilt for choice.
Visit the historic windsurfing beach at Cabo De Gata, try Go-Karting or visit the waterpark at Roquetas De Mar, go shopping in the old town of Almeria, or simply relax on one of the many beautiful beaches along the expansive and unspoilt Mediterranean coast. Local towns such as Almerimar and Aguadulce are perfect for sampling the local gastronomic delights as well as being home to a few lively nightclubs.
Due to its arid landscape, numerous spaghetti westerns were filmed in the Almeria region, so why not take a trip to the old Hollywood movie lots which have now become theme park tourist attractions. here are three to visit: Mini Hollywood, Texas Hollywood and Western Leone. All offer a fun day out in Europe's only desert region, with stagecoach rides, live shows, a zoo and the opportunity to quench your thirst in the saloon.
Alternitively visit Cabo de Gata Natural Park, just north of Almeria city, marking the extremity of Andalusia's largest coastal nature reserve, a fascinating landscape cocktail of arid desert, volcanic mountains, jagged sea cliffs, sand dunes, wetlands, a lagoon and sandy hidden coves. Mountain bikers, hikers, bird-watchers and water sports enthusiasts of all persuasions get away from it all to this natural wonderland which encompasses some quaint fishing hamlets, historic ruins and magnificent stretches of beach.
How to get there
Almeria airport (30 mins drive) is served by Easyjet, Ryanair, Jet2 and Monarch, flying from locations such as Birmingham, Luton, Gatwick, Leeds and Newcastle.
Alternatively fly to Granada (90 mins drive) with Ryanair, from Liverpool, Nottingham or Stansted.
