This lovely house has 3 bedrooms - 2 doubles and 1 room with 2 single beds. 1 ensuite and 1 shower room. The living room is spacious and light. There is a laundry room and study ideal for people needing to work whilst on holiday whilst the rest of the family get down to some holiday stuff. The property is ideally situated in the Old Village, within a stone's throw of the local pizzeria, and Bar at the bottom of the old streets. Everything is in walking distance, including the bakers where you can also enjoy a coffee or one of their delicious specially made ice creams, and watch the world go by. The tobacconist is just down the street offering snacks and a beer at lunchtime, the local wine growers offer their wines to take home and taste. The " cave" offers a selection of local wines and they can speak English if necessary. Kayaking is just along the river and the village has its own river beach - ideal for small children and older ones alike. A welcome cooling down in summer! The village has a local shop where you can buy those essential items and often the locals will sell their produce of vegetables and fruits along the road side. On Fridays there is a small market where you can buy meat, vegetables and gifts. You can even get your hair cut!

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

Roquebrun is set in the heart of the National park. A beautiful area to tour or for walking. There are so many places to visit and explore in this region is it impossible to recommend where to go for the best. The region is a walkers haven with short walks just around Roquebrun and the surrounding villages, along the river, or up into the mountain. Anything from a 30 minute stroll to a full day locally or even walking through the caroux for 3 days and more is possible.

Not far is Gorge d'Heric, a beautiful gorge with easy walking pathways, and cool pools and waterfalls to cool you down in the summer months. The walk to the top to the little hameau of D'Heric awaits with a welcome refreshing drink or ice cream. There are also the Gorges of Columbiers, a more wild landscape with stunning scenery.

If walking isn't your thing then maybe water sports are? Roquebrun is set along the river and you can go Kayaking for an afternoon or longer up to 3 days and come back down to Roquebrun on the descent. The local Kayaking people are well organised and you get also buy a photo of your descent at the end. A great day's activity for all the family with loads of places to stop off, have a swim, and a picnic.

Golfing is in nearby Lamalou and Beziers, caving is also possible within a 40 minutes drive of Roquebrun.

There are numerous abbeys to visit all with fascinating , and for those of you who love history this is Cathare country and you can visit numerous Cathar castles - the most famous of course being at Carcassonne.

There are sandy beaches within a hours drive along the mediterranean and the famous 7 locks at Beziers along the canal.

All around the region you will see bikers for the more sportive. Roquebrun itself is quite hilly but if you like biking you can see the most beautiful places around the region this way.

Of course we mustn't forget the wine tasting! That is the main activity in this region and in September for the "vendage" you see little trucks full of grapes EVERYWHERE. It is a delight to witness and be part of the community at this time of year, and you can go and watch how they press the grapes and out of season the winemakers are only too happy to talk to you about their wines, how they are made, taste some of the most delicious in the region and bag yourself a box to take back with you at great prices.

If someone was to ask me what my favorite activity was here, I would have to say, being along the river on a sunny afternoon, reading in the shade with a glass of local wine, listening to the crickets and the birds and the sound of the river, then going for a cooling swim in the clear waters followed by listening to the locals chatting over dinner the pace of life, the gentleness and the music..... great Jazz in Roquebrun is held at the local wine bar sometimes and there are lots of local festivals in the area over the summer. Mimosa festival is a must in February with hot wine and sausages abound! Enjoy it with us!
