BookThe Andalucia / Malaga Province region
Set high in the mountains above Marbella and the Costa del Sol resorts, the lovely historic town of Ronda is the largest of the "White Villages" of Andalucia. Steeped in history Ronda is a joy to behold. Centrally located for the coast or neaby cities of Seville, Cadiz, Jerez, Malaga and Gibraltar, Ronda could not be better positioned to explore Andalucia.
Due to the altitude of this town, during the winter months Ronda enjoys more sunny days than the coast with clear blue skies being above the cloud base and in the Summer months the altitude provides a dry heat as opposed to the humidity often felt on the coast.
The Ronda area
Ronda, built by the Moores has stunning architecture and history in addition to the famous Tajo (gorge) that divides the town between the old and the new. The old town being 1000 years old and the "new" a mere 200 years!!
Recently The first Lady of The United States of America, Michelle Obama famously came to Ronda on a day trip , visiting many of the historic attractions Ronda has to offer, many of these only a few minutes walk from the Casita.
Early September (around the 6th) is when the town Feria is held. A week of street party's, flamenco, music and fun.
Orson Welles and Ernest Hemingway were frequent visitors to the town. Hemingway was to write several books inspired by his experiences during this time and Welles was so smitten by the town that he insisted that his ashes should be scattered in the patio garden of Ordoñez.
Located in the province of Malaga 100km from the city of Malaga you will find the beautiful City of Ronda which is one of the oldest cities in Spain. Found in a mountainous area 750 metres above sea level the city has a population of over 35,000 this is a popular destination for people visiting Andalucia.
Ronda is divided in two by the Rio Guadalevin which caves our the steep El Tajo canyon upon which you will find the city perched. The stunning architecture of the city is influenced mainly by the Roman and Moorish rulers. In 1485 the forces of Catholic Spain took control Ronda and they too have left their mark on the City.
The two halves of the City are connected by three bridges which span the impressive canyon that separates them
Puente Romano – (Roman Bridge – Also know as Puente San Miguel)
Puente Viejo (Arab Bridge or Old Bridge)
Puente Nuevo (New Bridge)
The Puente Nuevo is the tallest at 120 metres above the canyon floor (El Tajo de Ronda) : all three are very impressive and form an important part of the Cities history and tourism.
Ronda has a whole host of attractions to offer visitors which include the Arab Public Baths which are the best conserved of its kind at the Iberian Peninsula. They can be found the old arab quarter of the city, known today as the San Miguel Quarter, formerly the outside quarter of the arab medina (city) of Ronda.
Palace of Mondragon – also known as Palace of the Marquis of Villasierra. This is is the most significant civil monument of Ronda.
Church of St. Cecilia – This is a impressive baroque style church and is just on of the many impressive churches in the city
Ronda also has a good selection of museums including
Museum of the City – Located in the Palace Of Mondragon and contains a huge selection of artifacts from the cities history
Bandolero’s Museum – This is the only museum in Spain dedicated to the bandoleros (bandits) of Spain

The location is fantastic. The accommodation needs a good cleaning, and some maintenance. There were burned out light bulbs, and we had to search to find three cups without chips on the rim. The owner/manager wasn't very interested in hearing our suggestions to improve the conditions in the accommodation. Parking is a bit dicey as well. Response: Thank you for the review, In response to your comments, the Cups had gone un noticed but were changed as soon as brought to our attention, Unfortunately the key lady couldnt acquire a ladder in time to reach said light bulb. However.. through other mediums Casita Ronda boasts 8/10 Very good reviews with 8/10 visitors very happy with the accommodation and friendly staff. |
