Home description
Finca Alta Cocina is a bed and breakfast that also specializes in 3-day cookery breaks. The bed and breakfast comprises two buildings: one old, one new. The new building is close to the old finca and has five en-suite double rooms (four with their own balcony and a guest lounge). The accommodation is first-class. There is also a 12-metre by 6-metre swimming pool on the five-acre grounds. A roof terrace has been added to the old finca.
The old building also houses the state of the art kitchen where the cookery classes are held. You can stay at the B&B without cookery lessons for any length of time and enjoy the local activities (min. two days). If you choose to attend the cookery classes, you will surprise your friends when you return home by cooking better Spanish food than you get in Spanish restaurants in England – and in Spain! You will learn the art of cooking succulent tortilla Espanola, perfect paella, the great favourite albondigas…and many other fine dishes. Visit our website for more details.

The Costa del Sol/Malaga region
Finca Alta Cocina is in the Province of Cadiz (but an hour’s drive from the city itself, which has long fabulous beaches) in the mountains near Ronda. The area benefits from having over 300 days of sunshine every year - perfect for that Summer or Winter sun break!
Regarded by many as the most beautiful of all the pueblos blancos in Spain, Ronda is perched in the hills between Seville and Malaga. Its dramatic setting, hanging high in the cliffs above a river splitting the town in two, has inspired poets and artists for generations.
It’s where Ernest Hemingway frequently stayed and he used it as the setting for his bestseller For Whom the Bell Tolls, about the Spanish Revolution. Another Hemingway classic was a study of the bullfight, Death In The Afternoon. The American writer felt that a bullfight was a tragedy, not a sport. Other famous devotees of Ronda include Orson Wells (there’s a statue of him in the town and a road named after him), and Hollywood superstar Cary Grant.
It has the country’s oldest bullring where concerts are sometimes held. Whether you are for or against bullfighting, the bullring is worth a tour.
Ronda / Grazelema Natural Park area
There is a vast acreage of outstanding natural parks in the area. One starts just down the road from Finca Alta Cocina. Algodonales is close to Sierra de Grazalema natural park, one of Spain’s most ecologically outstanding areas. The 127,000-acre park is famous for its spectacular rugged limestone landscape of cliffs, gullies and gorges.
There are about 18 different species of birds of prey living there. The better adapted to this kind of forest are the buzzards, snake eagles, tawny owls and sparrow hawks. On the rocky sides and gorges of the mountains can be seen birds such as the vulture, Egyptian vulture, partridge eagle, eagle owl, hawk and kestrel.
Finca Alta Cocina is set in the countryside just outside the buzzing pueblo blanco of Algodonales, which is close to the famous pueblo blanco of Ronda. Algodonales which is an ideal base for walking, cycling (we have bikes available), horse riding, paragliding and hot-air ballooning - and for wildlife lovers and birdwatchers. The rare griffon vulture roosts on the Lijar mountain immediately behind Algodonales, named after Algodon (cotton), which grows in the area.
Finca Alta Cocina has delightful views – and its own small mountain which you can climb for even better views. After taking in the panoramic view of the countryside and surrounding mountains, you can cool off in the pool.
You will find wild garlic, wild rosemary and wild fennel on the mountain with many types of wild flowers. We also grow some of our own vegetables. Fresh vegetables are delivered daily to the nearby town of Algodonales – and we make regular trips to the bustling vegetable, fish and meat market (all under one roof) in Jerez. All of this is used in our cookery classes. In our classes you will learn the secrets of classic Spanish and Mediterranean dishes. You will have personal tuition with total hands on experience in a class with a maximum of six people. The course includes three cooking classes – each three-and-a-half-hours long – two lunches and two three-course dinners – all with wine included.
