About the home
Montejaque is situated in the Serrania de Ronda, with mountains and rivers your next door neighbours and caves, rock climbing and established hiking routes to explore. The Cueva del Gato, 5 minutes away by car, provides a fresh water lake for cooling off in the summer and a train-service from Benaojan can take you further afield to the coast or inland. Eagles and vultures can be seen from the bedroom terrace spiraling into the sky and over the ravines behind the house.
And Montejaque has supermarkets, bars, restaurants, a post office, a pharmacy, a doctor's surgery and a municipal swimming pool if you want to stay local. Ronda, with its famous bull ring, history, monuments and great shopping and restaurants, is only 15 minutes away by car. And the coast is only an hour away for trips to the beach or to experience the glamour and glitz of Puerto Banus and Marbella.

There are very few things to add to the previous review. Montejaque is the perfect location as an exploring base for Ronda, the white villages and probably the best of the Andalusian country side.... more

Booking this lovely little house in the mountains was so easy. We spoke directly to the owner Carrie, who was so helpful & enthusiastic. She was at the property to meet us, even though it was quite late in the evening and gave us such a warm welcome to Montejaque. There was a welcome pack containing bread, butter, milk, jam, pitza, coffee, tea, beer and wine and chocolates, plus more.
The property was exactly as described on the web site and the photos showed it just as it was. This is Carrie's home and it shows. Filled with ornaments and furniture from her many travels, it was warm and welcoming.
We particularly liked the roof terrace overlooking the terracotta tiled roofs and mountains. It was very quiet up there and great for relaxing in the sunshine and eating. There is an enclosed courtyard/garden, which is shady and perfect for dining outside.
If you like quirky accommodation, then you will love this. The bedroom is big, with sloping floors and beams and the huge bed is very comfy.
The kitchen is adequate, but not modern and there are just about enough utensils and cooking pots for self catering. The lounge is very pleasant, with so many knick knacks. We were still spotting new things at the end of our stay!!
The property was great for two people, but because the bathroom is right next to the kitchen, we feel it would not suit two couples.
The location within the village is good, being 1 minute from a small shop selling most of the essentials. You can sometimes park close by, but usually have to park at the top of the hill, which was not a problem. There are a few great tapas places to eat. The hotel in the square is also good and the owner Michael is very helpful.
Montejaque is a perfect place to stay if you like walking. There are so many that we will definitely be back.
