The South East England / Kent region
The Romney Marshes are an area on the South Coast of England between Folkestone and Winchelsea in the west.
The land used to be marsh land, but has been mostly converted to very fertile farmland. Much lies below sea level, but is protected by sea defences and walls throughout the area. The Marshes are famous for their sheep and smuggling which for many years provided income to the locals .The area is well used by windsurfers, sailors and other water sports enthusiasts. The majority of the beaches are sandy and safe for families.
Romney Marsh / Fairfield area

Cyclists can enjoy the unspoilt lanes, dotted here and there with the famous Romney Marsh churches. There are many National Trust properties to visit within easy driving distance.
A trip from Folkestone or Dover to the Continent is easy by ferry or SeaCat. Eurotunnel's 'Le Shuttle' will whisk you to France in just 35 minutes, or you can travel in style to Paris or Brussels on Eurostar from Ashford's Internation Station.
