Home description
(Old farm 1600 style - up to 4 max 8 peoples) We are in the Sabina area, known for good, high-quality olive oil. We have refurbished an old farmhouse to accommodate visitors who, like us, love the tranquillity and beauty of the countryside in all its range of colours and every season.
The house is provided with central heating for year-round occupation, and washing machine. Children are welcome. In the garden there is a very old fountain where you can have a special bath!
Just 40' from Rome, in a hilly between the Tiber valley, Rome and Umbria, the countryside remains as it has always been, beautiful and largely untouched. Oak woods and olive groves characterize the landscape.
Here you can have a walk through the garden and have a good relax, listen to the nature's sounds and enjoy your holiday in Italy.

All around Sabina's Country
Farfa Abbey (L’Abbazia di Farfa) One of the most famous European buildings of the Middle Ages, this Benedictine abbey once controlled a vast stretch of Central Italy and was a religious and commercial centre. Its rule declined in the fifteenth century as power became concentrated in the Holy See. Today’s fully functioning church and other buildings are filled with exceptional architectural features and artworks.
Olive Oil Museum and Church of St. Donato Housed in a medieval nobleman’s palace, the Olive Oil Museum presents historic oil presses along with contemporary artworks dedicated to olive oil and its long presence among people of the Sabine Hills. A short distance away is the ninth-century San Donato Church, perched on its own hill surrounded by olive groves and a spiritual ambiance.
Casperia This medieval town sits like a jewelled crown on its hilltop and offers visitors a maze of charming stone streets with steps and archways to explore. The San Giovanni Battista church houses artist Giannicola Mariani’s fascinating presepe, a large-scale model of Casperia with figurines evocative of the medieval era. Over the centuries, Casperia was under the rule of the Farfa Abbey, the Savelli, and the Orsini, similar to other Sabina towns.
Roccantica Perhaps the most thrilling hill town to behold, owing to its astonishing architecture that grows from a massive rock face, Roccantica has a preserved fortress in its historic centre and a natural spring just outside. Like other Sabina towns, it was ruled at various times by the Farfa Abbey, the Orsini family, and the Holy See.
Poggio Catino and Catino Besides offering one of the finest views of the Sabina valley that includes distant St. Peter’s dome, these two abutting hill towns have the remains of medieval fortifications and castles. Catino’s bar is popular for home-made gelato.
Poggio Mirteto Today, hub of the Sabina townships, Poggio Mirteto’s preserved old town was once under the rule of the Farfa Abbey, which dominated the region in the Middle Ages. The Farnese, Orsini, Mattei, and Bonaccorsi families also ruled it at various times.
Montàsola Settled since Roman times and then abandoned, Montàsola was revitalized by monks and later granted in fief to first the Orsini and then the Savelli, before returning to rule by the Holy See until the end of the sixteenth century. The historic centre is fabulously preserved, and the town’s higher altitude lends a majesty to its perch over the rest of Sabina’s hill towns.
Greccio Sanctuary along the St. Francis Walk (Cammino di Francesco) Carved from a cliff face, this fascinating monastery is located on the site of St. Francis’s earlier retreat. Its Chapel of S. Luca, in a cave, is where St. Francis made the world’s first nativity scene in 1223. Nearby is his cell, including his bed of rock. Visitors enjoy sampling the mineral water close by at the Fonte Lupetta spring.
Nazzano This hill town with traces of Bronze Age settlements, was ruled by monks, the Savelli, and the Holy See over the course of its long history. Its handsomely preserved castle presides over a splendid view of the Tiber River and the Tevere-Farfa Natural Reserve, to which the city now belongs. Damming the Tiber for energy purposes led to the formation of a wetlands that soon became the habitat for birds and other wildlife. The town has a museum dedicated to natural history and archaeology.
Torrita in Tiberina Another splendid hill town overlooking the Tiber River, and neighbour to Nazzano, Torrita in Tiberina experienced similar ruler ships to other Sabina towns—the Holy See and the Orsini and Savelli families. The name “Torrita” comes from torri, for the town’s towers protected it from assaults by local troops during the frequent clashes between rival Roman families, especially the Colonna and the Orsini. Torrita is a five-minute drive from the Tevere-Farfa Natural Reserve.
Sant’Oreste, Mount Soratte Sant’Oreste, a hill town, with exceptionally preserved medieval walls and gateways, stands at the foot of the Sabina’s striking Mount Soratte, which can be seen from Rome. Henry James wrote in his Italian Hours, “Soracte, be it in January or May, rises from its blue horizon like an island from the sea and with an elegance of contour which no mood of the year can deepen or diminish. You know it well; you have seen it often in the mellow backgrounds of Claude (Lorraine); and it has such an irresistibly classic, academic air that while you look at it you begin to take your saddle for a faded old arm-chair in a palace gallery.”
Abbey : Sant’ Andrea in Flumine Located on the Tiber River near Ponzano, this picturesque Benedictine abbey in the Roman style retains its old fortified tower, later turned into a bell tower.
