The Lazio region
Lazio is the region of Rome. Rich in history and splendid cities, Lazio, called Latium in English, is a region of central Italy, bordered by Tuscany, Umbria, and Marche to the north, Abruzzo to the east, Campania to the south, and the Tyrrhenian Sea to the west. The Alban Hills area is the site of a quiescent volcanic complex in Italy, located 20 km southeast of Rome, the "eternal city", one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
The dominant peak is the Monte Cavo, at 950 m and there are two small calderas which contain lakes, Lago Albano and Lago Nemi. The hills, especially around the shores of the lakes, have been popular since prehistoric times. The towns and villages in the Alban Hills are known as the Castelli Romani. The area of the Castelli occupies an ancient, fertile volcanic area which has allowed since ancient times a flourishing agriculture.
The area is renowned for the production of wine, including the white wine of Frascati. Ariccia is celebrated for its porchetta (roasted pork meat). Starting from the Romans, it was an area frequented by the noblemen of Rome for its fresher climate during summer: the tradition was followed by the Popes which still have their summer residence in Castel Gandolfo, on the Lake Albano.
Rocca di Papa is a small town and commune about 25 km south east of Rome on the Alban Hills. It is bounded by other communes, Velletri, Rocca Priora, Monte Compatri, Grottaferrata, Frascati, Albano and Marino. It is the centre of the Regional Park know as the "Parco Regionale dei Castelli Romani". The Mediterranean climate will welcome you at your arrival and the luxuriant green is the ideal for a naturalistic walk.
Rome / Castelli Romani area
Pratoni del Vivaro is in the centre of the Regional Park of Roman Castles (Parco Regionale dei Castelli Romani), some 35 kms south of Rome. The cool climate, the presence of the lakes of Nemi and Albano, and the fertile fields have transformed this place into a holiday resort for the Popes and noble families, as demonstrated by some wonderful villas and palaces like Palazzo Chigi, in Ariccia, and Villa Aldobrandini, in Frascati.
The Park Authority offers to the visitors of the protected area some areas where they can rest and have a picnic. The areas are equipped with benches, little barbecues, information panels on the historical and natural features of the places. They are situated in particularly significant places, both for the view you can enjoy and for their naturalistic aspects. Thanks to its central position in the middle of Castelli Romani Park, our property allows lovers of trekking on foot and by bike to explore the beautiful woods of Lazio Volcanoes.
From Pratoni del Vivaro it is only 15 min drive to the Anagnina terminus of Metro A to downtown Rome (about 20 min to St Peter and Capitol Hill). In addition to the unforgettable experience of visiting Rome, The Eternal City, guests may choose to explore the Renaissance villas typical of Castelli Romani, like Villa Mondragone, Villa Aldobrandini, Villa Tuscolana and Villa Torlonia. Other important attraction of this zone are the papal summer residence in Castel Gandolfo and the numerous archeological excavations of Tusculum.
For all horse-riding lovers, the property is the ideal place to easily reach the federal riding centre, “Centro Equestre Federale” (FISE), situated in a big green area known as “Pratoni del Vivaro in Rocca di Papa” near Rome. The centre is one of the most famous Italian and International equestrian venue equipped to practice all the equestrian sports like hurdles, endurance and cross in a beautiful setting of green hills, slopes and plains.
Finally, If you want to spend a pleasant day going shopping, our villa in Pratoni del Vivaro is a strategic place to reach the most important shopping centre of Rome and Province, in fact, its only few km far from Valmontone Fashion District, the factory outlet with over 150 shops.
Pratoni del Vivaro is on nearly 600 m and the climate in the summer is pleasant and many Romans are going there to have some fresh air when it is too hot in Rome.
