The Lazio region

The Region of Rome, known as the Lazio region, varies considerably whether you visit the north, the south, the east or the west of Rome. Our property is located in the northern countryside of Rome, an area that gradually melts with Tuscany eventually and to some extent you can already notice some similarities in the landscape. Hills are rounded due to the volcanic orgin of the area, and the vegetation is quite gree due to the presence of numerous volcanic lakes. This specific spot is also the land of Romans as well as Etruscans. Many Mediaeval towns of great historic value are located in this area (Viterbo). There are natural parks surrounding the Cassia (one of Rome's main roads running from the centre of the city of Rome up to Tuscany and more!.............................
The weather in Rome is typically Mediterranean, temperature rarely falls below zero centigrades even in January. Therefore the temperature of our pool may range between 20 to 24 centigrades ( April May ) and up to 25 t- 29 centrigrades (from June to the first half of September).
Beyond Rome ( !!!!) the area in the north of Rome is worth an exploration tour as there are old towns of great historic or artistic values such as : Viterbo (with its Spas , its astonishing Santa Rosa commemoration,in September and Villa Lante ),Veio and Isola Farnese (Roman ruins are oly 5 km away ), the incredible Bagnoregio rock ( have a look in the Internet) ,The Palazzo Farnese in Caprarola ( not to be missed !), Bracciano with its lake and the Odescalchi Castle (15 km)
The Etruscan area of Cerveteri, Ceri and Tarquinia is relatively close (45 km )
The Rome / Cesano area
Distance from Rome downtown (15 km Via Cassia Antica ), 25 km (motorway ), urban train station 1.5 km from the cottage to go to the Vatican Museums and downtown Rome.
Easy access to the Bracciano, Martignano and Vico lakes (6 to 20 km)
The cottage is 3 km from Olgiata Golf Course
30 min driving from the beach of Fregene. Siena/Firenze and Chianti -2 hours driving.

We spent 1 week in Testa's Cottage in July 2011 with our 2 kids (aged 12 and 9). The welcome was already overwhelming: although the owners were on holiday themselves we were warmly welcomed by the parents who did their best to make us feel at home from the start: we found the fridge filled with all kinds of supplies (cheese, drinks, fruit, vegetables, meat), there was bread... So we could settle in directly. The cottage itself was fairly comfortable, it was not brand new but had everything we needed. But this was more than compensated by the extraordinary exotic garden and the marvelous swimming pool. It was great to see our kids have a splendid time in the pool! On top there was a lot of information available in the cottage to plan your trips to the beautiful city of Rome: only 1,5km from the cottage you could take a direct train to the centre of the city. This only costed 1€ per person for a 75' ride. So we could even take a metro after the train ride to bring us to every place we wanted in Rome. There was lots of touristic info available (maps, restaurant adresses, lake bracciano, ...) to meet all desires to visit all beautiful places. The only disadvantage were the numerous mosqito's making life a bit miserable :-| To conclude: Testa's Cottage is a unique spot to stay just outside Rome in the calm of your own private place with fantastic pool, just outside Rome, one of the most splendid places in Italy and the world! WE ARE FANS! |

We spent two weeks at the cottage during a very hot August 2011. Upon arrival, we were welcomed by Corado, who showed us around the gorgeous grounds and cottage. Corado went out of his way to settle us in, and even insisted on accompanying me in the car to the nearest supermarket, which for a non-Italian speaker on a Sunday was hugely appreciated! The pool and grounds are simply perfect, and we spent the majority of time lounging around the pool (which seemed solely for our use) with bbqs most evenings. As per previous comments, it was lovely to find bowls of vegetables and fruits outside our door, and Corado and others from the family were always on hand to answer any questions or to help us out. As we had a hire car, we ventured into Rome, Orvieto, Bracciano as well as the Macarthur Glen designer shopping outlet (twice!). The beaches at Fregene were beautiful - clean, friendly, and if you choose the right beach club, very uncrowded, even in the height of summer (try the Miraggio club, which has an excellent restaurant and facilities). All in all, we loved our stay at the cottage, and will recommend it to anyone. Also, it is very rare not to be asked for a security deposit on any rental, so the trust was refreshing! If there was one bit of advice it would be to take plentiful amounts of mosquito repellant! Thanks to Corado, Emanuela and the whole family for a memorable two weeks. Jon, Natalia & Charlie Response: Thank you for your review. We are glad you appreciated our efforts to practice the art of hospitality. ... and thank you for your word of advice we will definetely take action to improve! Emanuela and the Testa family |

This was our first family holiday abroad with our three children aged 5, 10 and 13. The cottage was perfect for us, small and simple but with every amenity that we could need. The cottage is in the grounds of a lrger house, and the grounds were idyllic; exotic trees and plants, secret gardens and even a football pitch, but the most wonderful thing was the pool. We stayed in April which to us, coming from Scotland, felt like midsummer and we spent many happy hours lying in and around the pool. We did not hire a car but there are regular buses from just outside the cottage that we took to the station in Cesano. The trains to Rome are fantastic; frequent, fast and unbelievably cheap! The people on the trains were all so friendly and chatty and one lady we met even drove us from the station to our cottage. As well as going into Rome, we took the train to Bracciano, which was fantastically beautiful, and we took a train from Rome to Ostia Antica, the old Roman port, which knocked spots of Pompeii and was definitely the highlight of the trip as far as the children were concerned. But back to the cottage - the family who own the cottage are utterly delightful. Nothing was too much trouble for them - we arrived to a fridge loaded with groceries- and they went out of their way to ensure that we had a wonderful holiday. We were taken on a nightime tour of Rome which we will never forget, especially as we tasted the very best ice- cream that Italy has to offer. They could not have treated us any better if we had been old friends of theirs - indeed, after such a lovely holiday, I consider the Testas to be friends of ours. I can think of nothing to criticise about this cottage, except that people with babies or infirmities might find the distance to the station too far but, if you hire a car, then that wouldn't be a problem. If we ever return to Rome, then we will definitely stay here again. |

We are a family of five with three small children aged four months, four and six and we chose to stay at the holiday cottage in Cesano which we found on holidaylettings.co.uk as it looked an ideal place to stay for family friendly accommodation near to Rome. We had a fantastic holiday and would not hesitate to recommend staying here for anyone looking for somewhere quiet and in beautiful surroundings but very close to all of the main tourist attractions of Rome. We would give Emanuela, Jolande, Corado, Marianne and Stefano full marks for making our holiday run smoothly with excellent communication before the trip and also for providing comprehensive information and advice on all of the practicalities such as good restaurants, shopping, parking and directions etc and also insider tips on the best places to visit both in and around Rome (Lake Martingano and the deserted Roman amphitheatre at Sutri were particular highlights). The property is comfortable, well equipped and full of rustic charm and being located in over a hectare of amazing gardens and with a full sized swimming pool there was plenty of room for the kids to run free and play and for the adults to relax. The perfect antidote to busy Rome! As we have a love of Italian cuisine it was particularly nice to be invited to eat with the owners family and also to receive daily baskets of fruit and vegetables from their orchard and vegetable plot located within the grounds. There are also excellent deli's, butchers, a bakery and supermakets nearby to stock up on produce for self catering both at the cottage and for picnics. We would like to thank the family for making us feel very welcome and also for going the extra mile, particularly for spending several hours and a visit to numerous local mechanics to help us find a good deal when I unfortunatetly had a prang in the hire car! (and for acting as temporary chauffers when we were then without a car for the day!). We look for ward to seeing you all again the next time we visit Rome. Best Regards, Ross, Martha, Oscar, Otis and Kitty.

We cannot thank you sufficiently for both the accommodation and everything you did for us during our stay in Rome.
The house is a testament to the love and effort you have devoted to this endeavour. It was not only clean, but also comfortable, and decorated with lots of memorabilia, which enhanced the house, making it feel not just like somewhere for rental accommodation. An example of this is the clock with all the individual bird chimes. The garden is absolutely spectacular, and I understand that when we came it was not at its optimum. Just looking at the garden is sufficient to relax you, and the swimming pool is surrounded by such beautiful foilage, and everything you could require to enjoy the outdoors.
Then, how do we begin to talk about your tremendous hospitality, which is well and truly beyond anything we have experienced elsewhere and we have travelled a lot, whether it was the lift from the airport and offers of lifts elsewhere, plus a lift to the airport at the crack of dawn to save us forking out for a taxi, the fruit you kindly gave us from the garden.... you really treated us like family.
Thank you, and hope lots of people benefit from this project, which is clearly not just a business for you. They will not regret it.
Warmest wishes

We spent a fantastic 2 weeks at Testa's Cottage. The pool and grounds were wonderful and the cottage had everything we needed for a perfect family holiday. Our hosts could not have been more friendly and welcoming; their night-time tour of Rome was one of our holiday highlights. We alternated relaxing days by the pool with sightseeing. The cottage is a really convenient 25 minute drive into Rome. We also visited Lake Bracciano,Tivoli and Orvieto and even managed the drive to Pompeii and Vesuvius in around 2 1/2 hours. Highly recommended!
