The “PRATI” District is a vast area of Rome located on the right bank of the “TEVERE”, the name derives from meadows that once extended from Castel Sant'Angelo up to the “MARGHERITA” Bridge, in the past there were vineyards and reeds. In which the ancient Romany loved to go oziare In Roman times Meadows Domizia belonged to the wife of Domitian perhaps the first name was "Horti Domitii" then were called "Prata Neronis. In the Middle Ages, the area was called "St. Petri Prata", as this area belonged to the Vatican Basilica. The area has always been little or uninhabited or inhabited until the first of the 1873 land use plan that included the construction of a district of 65 hectares. History of the District - District “PRATI”, XVII district, Rome In the second half 800's, the area in which today stands Meadows, had no urban situation, the area that was the level of the “TEVERE”, was subject to constant flooding, with many marshes, called "Prati di Castello" dominated by Adriana imposing Mole (Castel Sant'Angelo), and to solve this problem and make habitable building and the area, were transported large quantities of material in order to make the level. In 1900 we find the first Streetcar, the first construction, the first sewers, and in 1921 was officially formed District Meadows. The Prati neighborhood located in the immediate vicinity of Rome's historical centre, much to be treated with the term District, a typical name with which you designate the different areas of the old town areas.(VATICAN) Originally the zone “PRATI” was a set of green, gardens, cabins, inns for hunters, emerged only isolated farmhouses, ortolani and winemakers, and there were also isolated as the Villas residence of Altoviti, on the banks of the river or stroll under the hill of Monte Mario. Until 1900 to move to another bank of the Tiber we used boats and ferries. Only between 1877 and 1879 was built a sort of bridge that anticipated the current Ponte Cavour. The District “PRATI”, branches off from “Piazza Risorgimento” behind the Vatican walls until now occupy the entire loop Tiberina. On 16 February 1980 the Metro was inaugurated, transforming the area into a centre full of offices and residential apartments. “PRATI” borders with the oldest District Borgo.
