The Lazio region
Lazio is full of history and places to visit. There are a lot of museums about ancient Rome and historical ruins. You can have a day at the sea, in a wonderful cuntryside, or on the hills around Rome, or even go trekking on the mountain Terminillo. The mighty Colloseum is a sight to behold, maybe visit the Palatine or the old city centre, the Forum. Whatever you do you are bound to be entranced. Latium has great importance for history, art, architecture, archaeology, religion, and culture in general. The immense patrimony of the city of Rome forms only a part of the treasures spread over the hundreds of towns, villages, abbeys, churches, monuments, and other sites of the region.
Rome / San Giovanni area
The flat is located in a typical roman neighbourhood where you can find everything you need just under the building (confectioner's, chemist's shop, banks, supermarket, restorants, pizzerie, bakery and so on) and at a very reasonable prices. It is very close to the city centre. Colosseo and Termini station is far from the flat 5 km (check by yourself on www.maporama.it with "on foot" option) and it is really well served by public means. There is a city train wich connects the flat to the main station in 15 minutes). Once in Termini you can take both the underground lines. The closest centre neighbourhood is San Giovanni (4.1 km. The distance is calcolated on the website www.maporama.com, with "on foot options") which is also one of the 4 cathedrals in Rome, very beautiful and important for Catholicism. Of course, in Rome there are a lot of things to do and to visit. Take a day to explore the Vatican City, the world's smallest nation- a must when in Rome. Don't miss the Sistine Chapel, Michelangelo’s masterpiece.
And of course, sit back, enjoy a real Italian coffee and take in the atmosphere at one of the city's many cafes.
How to get there
Very easy to reach from Ciampino and Fiumicino airport. There is a train from the airport to Tiburtina or Termini stations and once there it will take 15 minutes to reach the flat with a direct urban train (5 km). Taxi form the airport to the flat costs about 40 euro from Fiumicino and 30 euro from Ciampino. If you are more than 2 we suggest the taxi from the airport (easy, fast and almost the same price if you are 3 and cheaper if you are 4 or more). From Termini station taxi costs less then 10 euro (normal traffic condition).
