For those of you who have never visited Rome then you will amazed at how much there is to see and do, while for those who have been here many times, well you know yourselves the reasons you keep coming back. But for us here is just a short list of why Rome is so special:
Ancient Roman monuments such as the Coluseum, Forum and Pantheon to name but a few.
Renaisence Rome with its many buildings, fountains, piazzza's, sculptures and museums containing priceless works of art.
Romantic Rome: watch the sun set over Rome from the Gianicolo, stroll from the Spanish Steps to the Trevi Fountain, an icecream in the shade of the Coluseum or a candle light dinner in Trastevere or Testaccio.
The Vatican City and all the other beautiful Basilicas and churches throughout the city.
And of course some people just come for the food, shopping and people watching in what is one of the most fashionable cities in the world.
Whatever you do on your stay in Rome we are sure you will have a wonderful time and remeber to throw a coin in the Trevi Fountain before you leave to ensure that you willcome back again some day!
The Rome / Central Rome area
Testaccio is a lively area full of restaurants, food stores and one of the liveliest food markets in the city. It was traditionally a work class area but in recent years has become gentrified due to its excellect location close to many historic monuments and being just across the river from Trastevere.
Things to see in Testaccio
The pyramid
You don't need to go to Eygpt to see an ancient pyramid. Standing 90 feet tall, Rome's pyramid was built in 12 B.C. as a tomb for the Roman Gaius Cestius, after the Cleopatra and Mark Antony scandal brought exotic Egyptian styles into vogue. Later the pyramid was incorporated into Rome's city wall
Testaccio market
The covered market at Testaccio occupies the central area of the piazza. Lined with butchers, grocers and fishmongers, the whole central area is given over to fruit and vegetables. Very popular with local residents, it offers super-fresh, high-quality produce and reasonable prices. Much of this market's charm for visitors lies in its compact size and relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

First of all, the thanks - to Sandra and Brady, who own this great apartment and have had considered every little detail to make our stay wonderful. They always promptly answered to all my e-mails and made me feel good about working with them. Additional word of thanks is to Stephanie, who greeted us at the apartment, made us feel very welcomed and showed how to get to most places on the map. Now, to the apartment itself - the apartment is a little bigger one of the two apartments that share entrance and a utility room with washer, dryer, iron, ironing board, and cleaning supplies. There are plenty of Rome maps at the entrance, as well as books and board games. Our apartment was clean and comfortable, having all the things to make us feel at home. We had enough dishes, pots and pans etc. in the kitchen, nice linen and towels. All the appliances were in good working order. The sofa in the living room can be opened into a double bed or two single beds, if necessary. However, the apartment has a shower (not a bath), which may not be as desirable to travelers with very small children (our kid was 7 at the time of the travel). There is a safe box in the apartment. The apartment is well kept and is absolutely safe. The wireless internet connection worked without any problems. The area has all necessary infrastructure with two grocery stores and a VERY nice farmers' market with EXCELLENT selection of seafood and veggies. We especially liked the boulangerie store for their great selection of smoked meats and cheeses on Marmarata street. Bus stop is about 2 minutes walk from the apartment. Make sure to remember that your stop is Marmarata Vanvitelli, as there are several Marmarata stops indicated on the signs at the bus stops :-) Number 23 bus and 75 bus go pretty much everywhere in Rome you have to go. Metro is a great choice to get around the city, but the metro stop (Pyramid) is about 15 minutes walk (nice area). Will we stay there again? Absolutely, yes! Will we recommend this rental to anyone? Definitely. The reasons: great owners who have thought of everything (in your confirmation package from them, you will get a map, booklet with recommendations regarding the area, the tourists attractions etc., and even bus tickets for your first trip (I thought it was very touching and considerate). Secondly, Stephanie, who greeted us in the apartment and to whom we could call with all our concerns (by the way, there is a cell phone with a local number and prepaid balance of 10 euros in the apartment). Thirdly, the apartment itself, having all the appliances and stuff you would need in a home away from home. Fourthly, the area, which is safe and has the infrastructure to support your needs (a bank, stores, restaurants, transportation, etc). By the way, if you are a good walker and are not pressed for time, you don't even have to take a bus to get to the major tourist attractions from the apartment, but that would take you good 30-45 minutes. We used taxi for our airport transfer, which was also arranged by the owners, and the taxi driver was prompts and very courteous. Thank you. |
