Home description

Right in the heart of the historic Centre, this walkup, first floor, two bedroomed apartment is in a small,quiet street on the edge of Campo di Fiori. Within walking distance of the River Tiber and St Peter's. All the famous romantic spots are easily reached in much less than an hour's stroll from the apartment: The Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Coliseum, etc. Not ideal for small children, pets, nor the elderly. An ideal location for both the history/art fan and for those who like to combine this with a love of good eating in the Piazza restaurants, and music and fun in the evenings.

The Lazio region

Although Lazio is rather neglected, as most people concentrate on Rome, it has many small seaside towns with sandy beaches and clear seas - Sabaudia, Sperlonga, Tor Vajanica, etc south of Rome, Santa Marinella, Santa Severa, Ladispoli, to the north. Historically, in the northern part is the Etruscan area and the famous tombs at Tarquinia, are well worth a visit. Likewise Vulci. All these places are near enough to Rome for a day trip.

Rome / Central Rome area

All roads lead to Rome! And leading out of Rome are many roads to attractive places. It is well situated for swimming and sunbathing at Ostia Lido (30 kms), easily reached by public transport. The Roman hill towns of Frascati, Marino are there to sample some well-known Castelli Romani wines; Castelgandolfo, the summer home of the Pope; lakes, especially Lake Bracciano with its Castello Odescalchi, much loved by the showbusiness world for weddings, and also for sailing; Parks - the Doria Pamphilj, Villa Borghese, Villa Ada, Villa Sciarra, Torlonia are all actually in the City centre. The huge Abruzzi and the Stelvio (for Birdwatching) are not too distant. From June to August everywhere you turn there is music, dance. From Opera and Ballet in the ruins of the Terme di Caracalla, to cinema in the Parks, concerts in old Palaces and Palace Courtyards, Churches, etc. Pop Music, Jazz, Ethnic - it's all going on: from the Island in the middle of the River Tiber to the Castle of the Angels (Castel Sant'Angelo) near the Vatican.

How to get there

EasyJet and Ryan Air to CIAMPINO Airport (approx. 45 minutes from City centre) . Terravision Coach transfers to and from airport to main central railway station - Stazione Termini - every halfhour from 08.40 a.m. to 12.20 am daily. There are many 'buses from Termini to Corso Vittorio Emmanuele II, near to the apartment. RETURN to Ciampino Airport: Coach departs from opposite Royal Santina Hotel (Via Marsala 22, near Termini) from 04.30 am to 19.30pm daily. Single € 8.50; return € 13.50 (www.terravision.it).
FIUMICINO (Leonardo da Vinci) Airport (main International airport): Terravision Coach transfers to and from Termini Railway Station, with several stops on the way, from 06.30 am to 20.30 pm daily. Single € 9; return € 15. Telephone +30 06 659586466. www.terravision.it.
By Train: Non-stop Leonardo Express train departs from the central Termini train station and arrives 32 mins. later inside Fiumicino Airport. Oneway ticket € 9.50. www.trenitalia.it
By Taxi: Fares TO Fiumicino from the City Centre cost an average of € 50.
