The Lazio region

Lazio is dominated by its capital, the Eternal City, Rome. Since ancient Roman times the region has been an extension of the city, where noble Roman families created their own towns and the wealthy built their villas in the surrounding countryside. Lazio is a treasure trove of the remains of age old civilizations: bridges, churches, towers, villas, monasteries, aqueducts, arches. To the north of Rome are Etruscan sites and the tombs of Tarquinia, founded in the 12th century BC.

The ruins of Ostia Antica, a 4th century BC port city at the mouth of the Tiber are located west of the city, with delightful beaches nearby. East of Rome toward the mountains is Tivoli, a favourite retreat for the wealthy at the height of the Roman Empire. Visit the remains of Hadrian’s Villa, completed in 134 AD, and the beautiful fountains and gardens of the Villa d’Este.

The coast of southern Lazio contains some of the finest beaches in Italy. Much of the 30km of unspoiled broad sandy beaches leading south to the chic resort of Sabaudia is backed by National Park. Continuing southwards from there is the Ulyssses Coast, a blend of sandy beaches and rocky coves. This area is bisected by the ancient Via Appia, and contains the remnants of the vacation villas of such lovers of luxury and hedonism as the Emperors Nero, Tiberius and Domitian.

The location in the heart of Rome is simply the best. Live a real Rome experience. You are a short stroll to the Campo di Fiori where you can buy some of the most beautiful produce you will ever see. You are walking distances to all the major sites, to great boutique shopping, great restaurants, and intimate trattorias. Enjoy one of Rome's best Gelato's just around the corner and also great pizzas. There is a health club just around the corner, too. Or, just walk. Walk to Piazza Navona, the Vatican, the Pantheon, hip Trastevere, elegant Via Giulia, the Forum, the Coliseum, and much more. If you don't want to walk, bus stops are near, frequent, and will take you anywhere.

"Could have been wonderful"

Make no mistake, the location of this apartment is fantastic! Close to Piazza Navona, with great shopping nearby and within walking distance of all attractions, we thought we were onto a real winner. … More

Thank you so much for writing. We have spoken to the owner, and he now understands that the fridge must be cleaned out. ( He mistakenly thought that you might enjoy what he left). I am also checking why the groceries that you ordered were not there. I am very sorry for this. I promise future guests that traces of owner will not be there. I am sorry about the washing machine, but sometimes parts in Italy take a long time to arrive. But you are right that the apartment is beautifully decorated and the location is prime. Why waste your start stay doing laundry when Rome is waiting! Best wishes,

""Perfect Location, Spacious and Charming Host."

We could not have asked for a better location, we could walk everywhere and close to the river. Great restaurants all at your doorstep. Yet still quiet enough despite being in the centre of the city. … More

Thank you for writing. We have now replaced the Sofa Bed with a full proper double bed. The seconde bedroom is now as comfortable as the first.
