"The best of both worlds!"
This was our first trip to Rome, we stayed at this apartment for one week and loved every minute. The apartment is lovely, very stylish and decorated to a high standard, the kitchen has everything you would need and having a washing machine is a bonus. As a host Diana was charming and extremely helpful. The apartment is easy to get to - we got the train from the airport then just 4 tram stops and you are there!, the Monteverde location was great we especially loved the local market which is open every day apart from Sunday and filled with a fantastic selection of fresh produce (no 'tourist' items!) we went there most mornings, sometimes we just went to look and take in the vibrant atmosphere. Locally there is a good selection of cafes and the ice-cream at Tony's is fantastic. We bought a weekly travel ticket for 24 euros each which gave us unlimited travel by tram, metro and bus and would recommend doing this. The centre of Rome is easy to reach via tram and is a lively wonderful city. We liked the fact that after a day of sight seeing we were able to return to our lovely peaceful accommodation and relax. We went into the centre most nights by tram and felt the journey there and back was great fun and gave us the chance to see some of the local sights and people.
Just walking around Rome is a pleasure in itself and is full of unexpected sights and experiences, as well as all the usual tourist sights there are many fantastic churches which you can visit and soak up the atmosphere. We especially love the Trastevere area which has a great variety of bars and great places to eat and people watch, (Big Hilda's and Bir & Fud bars both worth checking out)
So to sum up best of both worlds for us meant great location in peaceful comfortable surroundings with easy access to a great, lively vibrant city!

"Charming and quiet oasis in the suburbs"
Firstly, the owner Diana's care and helpfulness can not be overstated. From greeting us with fresh cups of coffee, to pre-stocking the kitchen with bread and milk (not to mention Easter treats, wine and beer, and delicious olive oil from her own estate in Umbria!), to a room by room walk through of the apartment and showing us around the neighborhood on our arrival, to providing a binder full of maps, brochures, guidebooks and her personally written lists of shop and restaurant recommendations, city advice and more, and even making museum reservations for us before we even left the USA (so we didn't have to try to speak Italian over the phone), she went above and beyond to ensure we felt at home and had all the information anyone could need for a fantastic Rome visit.
The neighborhood is quiet and has a very family feel. Just across from the tram stop is Tony Ice Cream, where we got our nightly gelato fix on our way home, and despite the flagrant copyright abuse of Disney Pizza, we can assure you the food is anything BUT copycat - fresh, delicious, and so affordable you feel guilty. Also right around the corner from the apartment is a large open air market, where we got fresh organic produce, cured meats, handmade pastas, eggs, and fruits more delicious than anything you'll ever find at Whole Foods, and again, at a fraction of the costs we're used to.
The apartment itself is beautifully and eclectically decorated, making you feel like you're in a proper home (not like some rentals, which feel cold and sparse and look like an Ikea threw up in them). It is VERY clean, and is both cozy and surprisingly spacious. Two bathrooms, both with showers (one has a shower/tub), meant getting everyone ready in the morning was quick and easy, the washing machine meant we could pack light for our 10-day stay, and we took full advantage of the cheerful eat-in kitchen to make breakfast at home every morning before venturing out to the city. My husband also had his nightly cigar and brandy on the balcony under the fragrant lemon tree every night. Oh, and there's fast, free Wi-fi!
The (surprisingly efficient) public transportation is just around the corner, with stops for major tram and bus lines that take you to the heart of Rome in about 35 minutes. The apartment is in Monteverdi, just south of Trastevere (our favorite neighborhood in Rome), so you can have all the fun and excitement of Trastevere nightlife - or city central - then hop the 8 tram and go to your quiet apartment to sleep in blissful peace.
My husband and I are foodies, and had dinner at some upscale restaurants during our stay, which led to the only drawback we ever felt about staying in Monteverde - which is that if you plan to sightsee all day in comfortable clothes, but then need to come home and change into something fancy for dinner, and then go BACK into the city, the travel can be a little wearying. But this is a small price to pay for having such a lovely home-away-from-home in a peaceful neighborhood for your trip to Rome.
Rome is fantastic, amazing, and beautiful, but it can be overwhelming, and being able to escape the hustle and crowds of the city so quickly and unwind in such peace and coziness made a tremendous difference in our trip.

"What a wonderful experience."
Lovely apartment in a really good, residential part of Rome. The place was immaculately clean when we arrived and it is very homely and comfortable. Close to the centre (20 mins by tram) with many really good restaurants close by and an amazing ice cream shop at the end of the road. We would recommend this stay to anyone.

"Beautifully appointed apartment"
Thank you very much for a really lovely stay.
The flat was beautifully decorated and filled with antiques. It was extremely comfortable and lacked nothing. It was lovely to be welcomed with little touches such as some fruit and milk for us when we arrived.
We loved staying in Trastevere, which is a world apart from the busy tourist centre of Rome, but a simple tram journey to the centre.
Having the market close by was brilliant, and we enjoyed some lovely cocktails and tapas in the centre of Trastevere one evening.
We can thoroughly recommend the apartment and area for anyone who isn't keen on being around hordes of tourists!

"Very friendly and helpful owners; lovely apartment"
We had a great time in Diana and Alberto's Rome apartment. They could not have been more helpful and the apartment itself was ideal for seeing Rome - one easy tram-ride away from the centre. The apartment is located in a quiet block and is beautifully decorated and was very clean. There was everything we needed for a comfortable stay: the air-conditioning was particularly welcome during a very hot fortnight. As was the excellent gelatino at the top of the road! Thanks very much, Diana and Alberto.

"Ideal Location in Rome and very comfortable & pleasant apartment"
Diana was so helpful even prior to our arrival with info on Italy in general. Her daughter Valentina met us upon our arrival on a Sunday late afternoon and was so kind in explaining all services (convenience & grocery store, Laundromat, Gelato store (yummy), tram and bus stops in our neighborhood.
The 1 bedroom apartment was very well appointed in a very nice and quit area, a good size apartment with two bathrooms and a well equipped kitchen, with excellent wifi; just an ideal rental for spending 5 days in Rome. Well worth the money.
What was really brilliant about our hosts was the information booklet (binder) which was in the apartment, full of maps and info on where to eat, how to get around by public service. We used this binder and it made our 5 day visit to Rome a real success. Especially the restaurants recommendations and directions on where they were located telephone #'s for reservations. We ate at most of these suggested places and really enjoyed our meals. They were all located within minutes of the apartment and very appreciated by us; especially after a long day of sightseeing in Rome.
Also upon our leaving the apartment our gracious host Diana, came to meet with us for over an hour and came prepared with maps and with the brilliant suggestion for us to rent a car once we got into Tuscany versus the train as we had planned. Plus she suggested areas and Villages for us to see; basically she came up with a 5 day itinerary which really improved upon our initial plans for Tuscany. Thank you Diana for making our stay in Rome so comfortable and making it so easy to visit Rome. Plus we are grateful for your time and recommendations on the continuation of our trip through Tuscany, Florence and even on how to maximize our travel time through Cinque Terre and over to Venice. We hope we can return the favor if you visit us in Asia in the future.
