The Lazio region

All the region is disseminated of historical and archeological site, from Etruscan to Roman up to Medieval era.

At 40 Km from Rome there is Cerveteri one of the most important area for Etruscan archeology.

The best of ancient Roman ruins are of course in Rome, while Viterbo (80-100 Km from Rome) very well resume the Medieval age.

Rome

This apartment is located in Via di San Teodoro, in the Ripa district an archaeological site for most of its extension (Temple of Vesta, Temple of Virile Fortune, the Medieval House of the Crescenzi, the Romanesque church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin...) only a few minutes and you reach the Piazza Venezia and Via del Corso, the Circo Massimo and the Colosseum, and the Trastevere district.

In the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin the famous "Mouth of Truth", a large round stone. In the past centuries, a legend sprung that if a lier placed his hand into the stone's mouth, he would have it clutched.

Next to the church is an interesting complex including two roman arches (the Arch of Janus and the much smaller Arch of the Money-changer) and next to the monument is the beautiful church of San Giorgio al Velabro (founded around the 6th or 7th century).

Behind the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin stretches one of the most dramatic sites of Ripa district: the area of the famous Circus Maximus, Rome's most ancient and largest hippodrome. On the side of the Aventine Hill that looks towards the Circus Maximus is Rome's rose garden.

"Comfortable crash pad"

This is a good place to stay: clean, (fairly) quiet, nicely decorated, new bathroom and great shower.

But it's very much just a holiday apartment, and by that I mean that there's nothing left in the cupboards (not even coffee) and no cooking equipment, no wifi or phone reception, and no washing machine. Of course, you're in Rome, so you're unlikely to plan to spend a lot of time there, but it's basically a glorified, spacious hotel room rather than a proper apartment.

Location wise, it's fine, but there are no shops nearby to buy essentials from - though there's a great farmers' market on the street. It was fine, but I'd probably stay somewhere else on my next trip.

It is not the first time that I receive this kind of comment. Personally, when I rent an apartament for my vacation, I don feel very comfortable by using things left by someone else. It gives me the impression that the apartment has not been cleaned up. This is why I take out everything after host departure. It is really a personal feeling I guess.
