Rome

Vitinia is a district of Rome and it is located in the area south-west of the town,

Vitinia is connected to the center of Rome by metro.

Nearby:

OSTIA ANTICA , offers ancient thrills to rival Pompeii (which is four hours south of Rome). Wandering around the ruins today, you'll see the remains of the docks, warehouses, apartment flats, mansions, shopping arcades, and baths — all giving a peek at Roman lifestyles.

Ostia, at the mouth (ostium) of the Tiber River, was founded around 620 B.C.; its central attraction was the salt gleaned from nearby salt flats, which served as a precious meat preserver. Later, around 400 B.C., Rome conquered Ostia and made it a naval base, complete with a fort. By A.D. 150, when Rome controlled all the Mediterranean, Ostia served as its busy commercial port. With the fall of Rome, the port was abandoned. Ostia's small museum offers a delightful look at some of the city's finest statuary tangled wrestlers, kissing cupids, playful gods. Most of the statues are second- and third-century A.D. Roman pieces inspired by rare and famous Greek originals.

OSTIA BEACH

Ostia Beach is the nearest beach to Rome.

Go to Vitinia Station and take the Line towards Colombo metro stop. Once in Ostia, it is merely a 5 minute walk towards the beach.

There are several different sections of Ostia Beach. Some are private and some are public ones. The private ones cost a fee to get in and then an additional fee to rent a lounge chair or an umbrella. However, these beaches usually have better facilities and are cleaned on a regular basis. At these private beaches, there are oftentimes restaurants, pools, children's play areas and other socializing activities.

Rentals at private beaches cost 6-7 euros for chairs and umbrellas and 5 euros at public beaches.
