The quartier:

This quartier of Rome is named Esquilino, as the hill on wich it seats (one of the famous 7 hills). The quartier was part of the ancient Rome, as is easily understood seeing the many ancient building visibles today too. The quartier received its last shape mainly in the 19th century, with big spaces, big nice buildings, wide roads.

The center of the quartier is the huge Piazza Vittorio Emanuele (known as Piazza Vittorio). The square is the second biggest of the city, after only the monumental St. Peter square, and has a big garden in the center. Piazza Vittorio noun is often linked for Romans to the big open market (food, clothes...) that was here, wich since 10 years has been moved inside a large building nearby the square, a very convenient and interesting place to buy food if you want to eat at home.

The Esquilino is part of the center, and close to most of the attractions of the ancient Rome, many of whom you can either reach on foot, but is also very close to the railway central station Termini. This is important for the traveller, because Termini is the terminal of either trains and planes, indeed if you don't want to pay a taxi (50 e. from Fiumicino and 35 e. from Ciampino fixed fees), train and comfortable "bus shuttles" brings you right here. Other important advantage is that the main subway line stops here in piazza Vittorio, making easy to reach many important areas of the city, included the Vatican. The many buses and trams complete your possibilities to move, making it an ideal starting place to visit Rome.

In the quartier there are all the shops, banks, restaurants you could need, and we will give you all information about it when you arrive, including maps.
