And here is what our guests wrote about the apt and their stay:
"August 2012. Dear Adriana, Thank you for being such a lovely and helpful hostess. It was a great pleasure to meet both you and Anthon. We had a fabulous holiday and in every way ( apart from aircon! ) the house was perfect for us. The location was ideal, the swimming pool just a short walk and never too busy, and the house so sweet with everything we needed plus all your advice.... If we return to Rome we will definitely be in touch and will recommend your home to our friends". Family Hickling from Norway.

"We flew from London and Dublin to make a party of 5.
The welcome from Adriana was excellent and informative (and included finding us in Casalpalocco and bringing us to the door!)
The apartment was extremely comfortable and spacious - with all the facilities one could require.
We enjoyed the swimming pool immensely and found the guard staff very friendly.
In all, we would highly recommend Rome, the coastline, Casalpalocco, the apartment and Adriana and Anthon."

"We drove from England to Rome, 4 adults and 2 children. Arrival at the house met by Adriana. She was very helpful, showed us all around the apartment. The apartment is very spacious even for six. We visited the centre of Rome several times using the buses and the underground (very cheap at 1 euro each!) We did a lot of sightseeing while we were here. Rome is a lovely place to stay and visit.
We used the local swimming pool many times very clean and quiet (a great place to relax)!
We found Adriana very helpful: we called her for directions and she did not mind helping us. Adriana also text us to see if we were all okay and if we needed anything/help.
We would definitely use the apartment/house again as it was just what we needed..."

"We spent a fantastic week here at the Green Planet. On arrival we were met by Adrianna who advised us of all the local amenities and gave us an extremely thorough tour of the house. There was ample space for a family of four. We found the location ideal for visiting both Rome and the local beaches. The easiest and fastest way to Rome was to leave the car at Acilia and catch the train into the centre of Rome. It was great returning back and relaxing by the Pool. We visited the local restaurant "Pomodori verdi fritti" and it lived up the expectations. We made regular visits to the local Carrefour which backed the most fantastic bread and had more than enough choice for us to make snacks and barbeques.
Adrianna was a great help, checking we were doing OK and answering any questions we had. The only hick-up we had was using the oven and the washing machine simultaneously, it blows the electrics. This was easily redeemed and cooking soon resumed. The array of shops and stalls in the square opposite (especially the Chinese shop) kept the children amused and occupied.
If returning to Rome (we) would definitely use the accommodation again and would recommend it for any family holiday.
Thanks for a brill holiday.

"Dear Adriana,
We have safely returned home this weekend and I would like to thank you for the great stay at The Green Planet last week. It was lovely to be staying in such a green and literally blossoming neighborhood.
The airco in the second floor bedroom made it perfectly suitable for the warm nights, and the fans in the other bedrooms were more than sufficient to cool those sleeping below. We dined outside twice, (the second time with anti-mosquito candles and burners, which significantly lowered the number of bites). The availability of wifi made looking for places to go (or checking the local weather report) a breeze. The pool is a great asset to your house, it was used practically on a daily basis. We went into Rome by car, parked at the Laurentina metro station –always had enough parking space at the upper deck- and took the subway from there. Coming back we once also took expressbus No 30 from via Vittorio Immanuel . Your restaurant advice on the website was very accurate and we enjoyed great dinners at Pomodori Verdi Fritti, Mariposa and the trattoria near Castelporziano beach. Our 3 children greatly enjoyed the big pizza at Pomodori and at the two beach locations went playing while the adults enjoyed the extensive fish menu.
Our last day there was a strike of practically all public transportation and we drove into town, parked at the Circus Maximus ( in spite of it being very close to the Bocca de la Verita there was ample space, even on this day) and walked into Trastevere, a very quick ride of just over 35 minutes. The advantage of having your own car was that we could now also visit the San Clemente with its 2 churches and Mithras temple all built on top of each other. The ride back to CasalPalocco was more of a challenge however with a unforgettable Italian friday afternoon traffic jam -it took more than 2 hours to get back and I saw a lot of explicit handgestures being used- but it all added to our Roman experience. Our visit to Ostia (Antica) was one of the highlights of our stay, with beautifully preserved mosaics and even frescos at unexpected places.
Thank you for letting your house to us, I will certainly recommend it to others wishing to visit Rome." Dutch family with three children.

"Stayed at The Green Planet with 4 adults and 3 children. Very hot (in Rome) but with airco and fans the house was a very good place to stay. Swimming pool used practically daily. We drove to metro Laurentina and used the big parking there to station our car and go into town. Ostia Antica was wonderful and the restaurants (Mariposa, Pomodori Verdi Fritti and the trattoria in Castel Porziano) were good value for money. Thanks, Fam. Kars, The Netherlands"

"We've spent a wonderful week in Casalpalocco. We did a lot of sightseeing, swimming and shopping (especially the girls). The house is perfect for our family with three kids (12-20). Rome is wonderful for discovering the Antiques and every corner shows new treasures. The house gives the luxury at night but also the possibility for an early or late swim. And there is also the beach!
A week is almost too short and we'll hope to come back. We wish Adriana and Anthon all the best, thanks for all the good cares.

"The home is lovely and Adriana is a kind and gentle lady. She could not do enough for us, always offering to help arrange our itinerary and even to spend time with us visiting attractions in the locality.
We are a family of 2 + 2 and we were very comfortable at The Green Planet. We found the public transport system both efficient and frequent, and very nearby.
The Carrefour supermarket is only 100 mt from the compound and contains everything that is required.
The local restaurant that Adriana recommends "Pomodori Verdi Fritti" is SUPERB! We ate there 5 nights out of the 8 that we stayed - never the same thing twice. They are friendly, efficient and have an English menu.
We cannot recommend The Green Planet highly enough. We loved our stay there and hope to return in the future... The kids say it was our best holiday ever and we agree.

"We came to Rome on 3 of July and this is our first time here so we were afraid of the people here in Rome but when we met Adriana she welcomed us with her beautiful smile. She is a kind Lady and we loved her.
So, thanks a lot for your kindness and hospitality. We enjoyed our stay in your apartment and we sure will return to your home in the future.

Further details outdoors:
Shops, supermarkets, cafeterias, a lively restaurant-pizzeria "Pomodori verdi fritti" are all just round the corner of the house at 5 minutes walk. And if you walk 10' you will reach the sporting club where many activities are going on for all ages (tennis, volley-ball matches, water-gym). You can visit the city centre either by car or by bus/underground lines B or A. TICKETS euro 1.50 last 75'. The Colosseum can be reached in just a bit more than half an hour. But you can also decide to go to the beach either at Ostia or Castelporziano. They can be reached easily either by bike or by bus. If you have a car it will take you 10'. Try the Mariposa restaurant at Ostia and enjoy their fabulous fresh fish at moderate price or drive to Castelporziano to the "second gate" of the free beach and enjoy a simple "trattoria" where the owner prepares excellent spaghetti with "telline"... All for very modest prices! If you want to spend a pleasant afternoon, make a stroll at "Le Terrazze" shopping centre, 10' walking from your house where you will find excellent ice-creams, small children toys, open air coffee shops, fashion shops, beauty shops, banks, fountains and a pleasant pizzeria "La Locanda". If you like going out eating, you can choose at least two restaurants/pizzeria in the Casalpalocco area: the one of the Polisportiva and the Villa Verde sporting club: they are both close to swimming pools and reasonably fresh in hot weather. You can end your day with open-air music at one of the many festivals organized in summertime both in Rome city centre and in Ostia.
The bus stops are just outside the main entrance of the compound. You can take 709 to EUR in order to catch the underground (line B)- 30' ride or bus 06 to Acilia to catch the train to Ostia-Pyramid. Alternatively you can reach Ostia by bus 08. When schools are closed and most workers go on holiday ,traffic becomes less dominating, public transport goes faster and it is very comfortable to travel.

Enquire nowThe Lazio region
The Lazio region where Rome is located is well known by all tourists worldwide. I feel I should inform you about what you could do South of Rome. One of the marvels of archeology (less known than Pompei or the Roman Forum) is Ostia Antica: the old port city of the Romans,1st century before Christ, an extensive archeological site which is still in the process of being explored and discovered! There you can admire houses, baths, markets, an amphitheatre and temples. But more than anything else you can sense the majestic pleasure of silence and space amidst antiquity.
Another place of interest that you can reach easily by car is Cerveteri. There you will visit the Etruscan art with tombs and sculptures.
South of Rome you have pinewoods and special reserves (not for nothing one of them is the summer residence of our Head of State): beautiful unspoilt Mediterranean pinewoods degrading towards the sea front with high dunes covered with myrthus and rosemary and other scents. The best time for all that is May-June when you can still feel the discoverer of those beauties (hardly any tourism).
The Rome / Casalpalocco area
Casalpalocco is Rome's best kept secret: the whole area is green, clean, well maintained and quiet. There are bike streets, terrace bars, elegant shops, well designed residences and several shopping centres. It is a jewel of Roman architecture because it was designed and built in the '70s according to a future-oriented project. Once considered in the outskirts of the city, it is now part of Rome: in fact one of the most desired district where upper middle-class Romans and foreigners live. Walking along its streets you may cross people you are familiar with from TV movies or other. In that sense, one of the pioneer dwellers of Casalpalocco was famous film director Sergio Leone, a cult of Italian westerns.
If you decide not to hire a car, you can move around by public transport. It's very convenient and quite cheap, still. A ticket costs euro 1.5 per person and allows you to take all buses and two underground lines (A and B).
The bus stops are just outside the main entrance of the compound. You can take 709 to EUR in order to catch the underground (line B) or bus 06 to Acilia to catch the train to Ostia-Pyramid. Alternatively you can reach Ostia by bus 08. When schools are closed and most workers go on holiday ,traffic becomes less dominating and all bus rides are faster and more comfortable. Bus 709 will connect you to subway in 30'(B line, EUR Fermi stop)and then to Pyramid (next to Aventino area), Colosseum to visit the Forum, Cavour to visit Michelangelo's Moses and of course Termini railway station. At Termini you can change into A line and visit the Spanish steps (Line A stop: Spagna) , Piazza del Popolo and Villa Borghese. Or you can continue to Ottaviano stop and visit the Vatican Museums with the Sisteen Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica.
You will spend your Rome holiday in a green planet well connected to the city centre, monuments and art collections ...When you're back home in the afternoon, you will be happy to be away from the 'madding crowds' of noise, traffic-jams and rush of tourists.
If you come by car there is parking space in the compound and, alternatively, a garage just opposite your gate. Coming by car offers you the possibility of visiting easily all attractions nearby the city, such us Tivoli with its famous villas (Villa Adriana and Villa d'Este), the lake district (Nemi, Nemi lake and Bracciano and its lake), Cerveteri with its interesting etruscun tombs and much more.
The nearby sporting club - Polisportiva Palocco - is open for tennis players. You can have access by buying a daily or weekly entrance card. They also organize tennis courses for children (at least one week). There is also a good restaurant within the premises of the club. If you are a golf player (with international golf card) you can practice at the nearby Golfcasalpalocco club (euro 7 per day + euro 3 for 50 balls). (www.golfcasalpalocco.it).
Another possibility is to spend a whole day at the beach either at Capocotta to watch wild Mediterranean flora and dunes in an area of about 1.000 he or at Ostia Lido to enjoy the comfort of an elegant beach resort . In Ostia there is much going on in summer time. And that is only 3 kms away from The Green Planet!
Nearer to the Green Planet southwards - about 1 km away from home - you will find the beautiful pinewood reserve of Castelfusano with horse riding facilities most of the year round. Tours ride inside the large pinewood of Castelporziano which is the largest nature reserve in Southern Italy (the Presidential part alone is 5.900 he!).
If you are fond of sailing you can reach the Ostia sailing club at the end of Via dei Pescatori (riding along your home) and rent a boat there. Further on along the Ostia lungomare coast there is the yacht club with facilities, shops and coffee bars.
ROME city centre and its famous monuments is well known. I would take different days for exploring and processing them, not to get too much in all at once and then feel confused or just tired. A special mention though should be given to the modern jewel of Roman architecture known as EUR (Rome Universal Exhibition) a district in the shape of a Roman shield planned and half built to host Rome Universal Exhibition after the trend of London and Paris. The planned date was 1942 but construction came to a alt when Italy joined the second world war in 1940. At the beginning of the 60s you still saw huge columns laying in the grass and then, with the economic boom the whole project was resumed and completed under the direction of architect Pierluigi Nervi, among others. EUR (now you know what it stands for in Italian) hosts now the "Museo della Civiltà Romana", the "Museo Etnologico" ( facing each other at the main square with the obelisc), musical events at the "Palazzetto dello sport", exhibitions at the "Palazzo della Civiltà" and conventions at the "Palazzo dei Congressi". If you are interested in modern architecture, don't miss a careful visit to the last three buildings...
Internet is a valuable source for finding many events and festivals going on at the time of your planned visit. There is only the difficulty of choosing what to do, according to your time schedule and your priorities! If you wish to visit Rome discovering what most tourists don't know, you can join a guided tour by the archaeologist who leads "amici di roma" (www.amicidiroma.it) at a cost of euro 10 per person (in group).

The Green Planet is a nice home with everything you need for a comfortable stay. There is a convenient grocery store nearby and another wonderful shop where you can get the basics (juice, milk, etc.) plus espresso and pastries. We did not rent a car, and relied on busses and the metro to get to central Rome, and fortunately there is a bus stop nearby with three different lines that can get you to the Metro and on to central Rome in under an hour. Adriana is a great hostess, very responsive, and offers very helpful advice about Rome. |

Adriana and Anthon, our hosts, were really charming and were a fount of useful information. They could not have been more friendly and welcoming. The apartment was very clean and comfortable and in an attractive and safe complex, with access to a superb swimming pool (to die for at the end of a busy day's sightseeing). It was a short car drive to the station from which a 20 minute tube ride got us near the centre of Rome. The Pomodore Verdi Fritti pizza restaurant near Green Planet was very good, as well as the fish restaurant by the beach, also recommended by Adriana. The only drawback for us was the fact that only one of the bedrooms had aircon at night but I believe Adriana plans to rectify this. We hope to return. |
