Home description
Since its spring 2008 inauguration, Il Sogno has been readily called "home" by many guests. It is a comfortable yet elegant place to unwind in the silence and fresh air of the countryside. It is the ideal vantage point from which to visit the city centre or the gorgeous lakes Martignano, Bracciano and Vico and to take a day trip to the neighboring regions of Umbria and Tuscany.
Have a swim and then take in the splendor of the setting sun after a busy day of sightseeing, either in the capital, or in the many parks, churches and archaeological sites. Or cook a meal and eat al fresco, after a day of sailing, kayaking and swimming at one of the nearby lakes.
The Studio is newly renovated and ready to welcome you. It is a private guest house that formerly served as an artist’s studio to the previous owner and architect of Il Sogno. It is located near the pool and the main house.
The Studio is a stucco building with a terracotta-tiled roof, high chestnut ceilings and large, custom-made, wrought-iron double doors and windows. In addition to the sleeping areas, it boasts a spacious living room with working fireplace and comfortable seating, a dining area and fully-functional kitchen with a beautiful marble sink from Carrara.
Antiques and custom upholstery tastefully enhance the light, airy rooms. The terrace looks over the valley and the hills, has marble bistro tables, a large Carrara marble dining table, wrought-iron chairs, a barbecue, an outdoor sink of hand-carved travertine and a tree-house in a neighbouring century-old olive tree.

The Lazio region
Lazio is a region rich with cultural activities, ancient history, gorgeous nature and wonderful food. Il Sogno is perfectly positioned so you can make the most of your vacation with the least travel time to Rome's historical centre (30 minutes by train, the stop is five minutes away), the volcanic lakes, ruins such as Ostia Antica, Hadrian's Villa, Villa D'Este, Roman catacombs and Etruscan necropoli, quaint medieval towns and ancient settlements.
Il Sogno is a five-minute drive from the old “borgo” of Cesano, a medieval town, originally settled by the Etruscans. There are other medieval towns with castles, such as Bracciano and Isola Farnese, within a short drive as well as the beautiful “borgos” of Campagnano, Anguillara, Calcata and the city of Viterbo, located within its ancient walls.
The area is full of Etruscan ruins (Cerveteri, Veio), and boasts hot springs such as Stimigliano and Le Terre dei Papi, all within a 10-30 minute drive. The world-renowned Olgiata golf course is 4 km away, the Parco di Roma Golf Club is 25 minutes drive, and both the Parco dei Medici Golf Club in Rome and the Golf Club le Querce in Sutri are 35 minutes away. We are also just 30 minutes away from Rome's most famous beach.
That being said, many of our guests have a hard time tearing themselves away from our private paradise. It is nice to have the option of just staying home, reading a book from our library by the pool, playing croquet on a manicured lawn, picking your fruits and vegetables from our gardens and then grilling on your private terrace and watching the sun set over the Roman countryside while you enjoy what may well be your best vacation ever.
Rome Lake District
Rome's Lake District is surrounded by unspoiled park land where golf, fishing, hiking, biking, horseback riding, nature walks and birding are year-round activities. In the crystal-clear waters of Bracciano and Martignano, only electric motors are allowed, and both places abound with sailboats, kayaks, peddle boats for rent. Il Sogno's own kayak is on a beach at Lake Bracciano for guest use.
The other volcanic lakes, Vico and Bolsena, are worth a visit as well, and make a nice day trip, especially if you stop along the way at the small town festivals, antique shops and Etruscan ruins. Il Sogno is in the heart of Etruria and borders on Veio Park, the Sorbo Valley and Martignano-Bracciano Park.
We are happy to share our favourite hikes, hidden roads to Etruscan and Roman ruins and programs for what we think is an ideal day in an idyllic setting. We can even provide you with a picnic lunch with fruit and vegetables from our garden, cheese from the nearby farm and local wines!
How to get there
Il Sogno is easily reachable by car, ferry, train, air (Fiumicino, 40 minutes and Ciampino, 50 minutes).
We are just five minutes away from the Cesano train station, which takes you to Rome's centre in just 30 minutes. The ticket costs just one euro and trains run about every 15 minutes. There is ample free parking at the station.
Low-cost airlines have multiple flights daily to Ciampino airport.
Cars can be rented at the main train station in Rome, Termini, at the airports or close to Il Sogno. We are happy to help you with any part of your trip reservations.
In additon, Civitavecchia port has ferries arriving daily from many countries and Italy's mediterranean islands.

Guestbook for Il Sogno-The Studio
Words cannot truly express how wonderful it has been to stay with you guys. From fresh fruit, cheese and wine to afternoons with Nero and Gina, the awesome suggestions for Rome, and, of course, your enchanting home. Sheryle and Adriano, you guys have made not only our first trip to Italy great, but you made our honeymoon a memory of a lifetime.
Leigh and James, USA
Very occasionally when travelling do you find the perfect home away from home; Il Sogno is such a place for us. From the setting and beautiful gardens and surrounds to the “Roman Cottage”, it has been memorable. The atmosphere with the paintings and patios have made this very real Italy. Sheryle and Adriano, you have made us feel so welcome (twice) and that hospitality and assistance have been a highlight and made Rome and the surrounds very enjoyable. Now the breakfasts, what can I say, they alone are worth the visit…Thank you!

We feel so fortunate to have discovered this rare gem, this little piece of paradise, and privileged to have shared in its peace and tranquillity. This holiday really was “The Dream”…grazie grazie for your warm welcome, hospitality and never ending willingness to please, advise and direct us. Your beautiful villa was abundant in character and charm with attention to detail throughout and every modern convenience to make our family comfortable and happy… The pool was perfectly positioned in the privacy of the lovingly maintained gardens with the sun ever-present and Gina to keep us company in the shade. You have been so kind and helpful we are eternally grateful.

After three busy days in Rome, Il Sogno was a delightful oasis of peace and relaxation. We have enjoyed bracing dips in the pool whilst baking gently on the decking in the glorious sunshine. Lots of trips to the lakes, which we preferred to the sea and a days sightseeing in Tivoli. All this made for a great holiday, made even better by your generous hospitality and kind consideration…We really don’t want to leave!
Christine, Ed, Tom and Jess, UK
Il Sogno is a wonderful oasis, but the true treasures come from both of you. You are generous and thoughtful hosts, along with Gina, who greatly us warmly everyday and kept us company while we were here. The warmth we felt here came not from the “toasty” weather, but from your eagerness to help and make us feel like this was our “home away from home”. Our heartfelt thanks for your wonderful cooking and your thoughtfulness. We are very lucky to have crossed paths and hope to return to your gracious hospitality.
Linda and Mark, Jewel and Merrill, USA
What a find! A wonderful place to stay, especially after a hard day visiting the sights in Rome. It has been an absolute delight to relax and enjoy this wonderful place. Thank you for your warm friendliness and generous hospitality.
Yvonne, John and Damita, UK
