The Lazio region
The regional park of the lakes Bracciano and Martignano is equidistantly from Rome (35 minutes North) and Viterbo. Within the protected area there are various ancient centres principally rural, that with their gastronomic and village traditions make this an ideal place to stay for a while. The lake is vorbidden to the motors and its water is used as aqueduct of Rome. In the nearby: the Farnese Palace by Caprarola, the rocked mall villages of Ceri and Calcata, Oriolo Romano with its portrait-gallery of all the popes in the Altieri Palace, Viterbo with its beautiful medieval centre and the Papal Palace, the numerous Etruscan excavations and necropolis in Cerveteri, Tarquinia, Tuscania, Veio, Barbarano, Santa Severa to name but a few, Sutri with the ancient amphiteather and mitreo, all within easy distance, and of course, ROME!!. You can spend a day at the beautiful Mediterranean beach at only 20mins far, visit the forest reserves of Canale Monterano, Manziana, Tolfa, and enjoy the sulphurous hot water of the near spas of Stigliano (20mins) and Viterbo (hot water 37 degrees).
Rome Lake District / Lake Bracciano area
The town of Bracciano counts 16.000 inhabitans, is about 900 feet (280 meters) above sea level, in a deligthful location, with its historical medieval centre and the majestic Orsini-Odescalchi Castle (just above the cottage), which is privately owned, but open to the public for guided tours. At 1 km from the Cottage you can visit the Botanical Gardens of S. Liberato (designed by Russel Page), where you can also admire the oldest frescoes in the small ancient church. We can also recommend a boat trip on the lake, with stops by the villages of Anguillara and Trevignano, a visit to the Aeronautical Air Craft Museum by the lake, the most important in Europe. The lake offers: Swimming, sailing, fishing, canoeing, pedalò, rent a boat with electric motor, wind surf, sunbathing, restaurants and bars.

Guestbook for Cottage by Lake Bracciano Rome
Dear Fiore, Thank you so much for the warm welcome and hospitality. The cottage and location was perfect. Many thanks for your kindness.Much love from wales Kelly and Kay.x
The cottage was perfect for our needs...really not a B&B, as breakfast was not provided, but we had adequate cooking facilities..grocery stores were walking distance as was the town, the castle, public transportation and the lake. The cottage was immaculately clean, we had satellite t.v., many stations in English. A lovely swimming pool was only steps outside the cottage door and the view from our front door overlooked the country side and the lake..at night we could see the twinkling lights from two small villages on the opposite side of the lake. It was quiet, good sleeping. Our hostess Fiore and her two loving dogs provided warmth and hospitality which were outstanding. Fiore speaks good English (the dogs don't), and she was helpful and accommodationg in planning day trips and recommending places of interest. The local castle is fascinating and there are daily tours available. Shopping and eating was plentiful and good. We did not have a car, but for some people it would be helpful in getting around to the various, and plentiful points of interest. Even to go into town, if you are not in good shape, it's an up-hill hike, and coming back at night, when on foot can be daunting. Driving in Italy overwhelms us, but next time we will have a car for the convenience. Dave & Carole - Vermont - USA
