The Costa Blanca/Valencia region
The Costa Blanca, or White Coast, comprises approximately 200 km of coastline stretching down the South Eastern corner of Spain. Apart from the wonderful beaches, there are vast mountain ranges and many natural parks for nature lovers to enjoy.
Many visitors who travel to the Costa Blanca each year do so mainly to take advantage of the sun, sea and beaches. With temperatures ranging from an average of 16° centigrade in winter, to 32° centigrade in summer and with an average of 325 sunny days each year, the Costa Blanca ensures that you are able to enjoy life to the full. Whilst the months from May to October are the hottest with temperatures sometimes reaching 40 deg centigrade during July and August, there are many beautiful sunny days in the cooler months which makes it an ideal place to esape the English winter.
However, there is more to the Costa Blanca than this. For culture lovers there are many ancient towns and cities while for sports enthusiasts there are many excellent golf courses in the area plus the usual range of water sports.
Situated a few kilometres inland, the tradtional Spanish village of Rojales has a history going back to the times of the Moors during the 8th to 13th centuries, and lies in an important agricultural area for the growing of citrus fruits, mainly oranges and lemons. The Segura river dominates the area, and the impressive Charles III bridge, built in the 18th century, spans the river in the centre of the village. The area boasts a healthy micro-climate due to the nearby salt lakes.
All along the coast there are many sandy beaches, the nearest being Guardamar del Segura, only a ten minute drive from the villa. Here you will find a beautiful 7-mile long stretch of golden sand flanked by numerous restaurants and cafes. Guardamar is a very traditional Spanish town which boasts an impressive castle with stunning views.
There are many fine golf courses in the area. The nearest one, La Marquesa, is within walking distance of the villa. A water park is only a short drive away.
The vibrant city of Torrevieja is only a 20 minute drive from the villa. With some beautiful beaches, the Aquapolis water park and plenty of nightlife, Torrevieja is well worth a visit during the summer months. If you enjoy visiting markets, one of the largest open-air markets in Spain is held in Torrevieja every Friday where you can find clothes, accessories and some marvellous food stalls selling fresh produce at very cheap prices. Markets are a popular part of Spanish life and one can be found every day in the surrounding areas.
