This wonderful place is famous not only for its crystalline clean sea, beautiful beaches and the Mediterranean atmosphere but also because of one of the biggest and most refined disco clubs in Dalmatia, Aurora discoteque

The Dalmatia region

ROGOZNICA is 7 km by road or 2 NM by boat from us

In Rogoznica be sure to visit: the salt lake "The Eye of the Dragon", the beautiful yacht harbour Marina Frapa, the small chapel Virgin Mary and the parish church. Or you can also make a full day tour to the national parks Krka waterfalls, Kornati islands and plitvice lakes, or the historic towns of Split, Šibenik, Trogir and Dubrovnik.

THE PARISH CHURCH - The parish church in Rogoznica was built in 1615. Church is located in the old town center on top of village from which a panoramic view is offered. During summer season, holy masses are each Sunday at 10 am, and everyone is welcome. The most popular ceremony is held each 2. July, when the picture of the Virgin Mary is taken to the parish church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The picture remains in the parish church until the first Sunday after Our Lady of Karmela, when it returned in festive procession by land and sea to its sanctuary on the Gradina Cape. A hundred boats and thousands of pilgrims participate in the procession.

CHAPEL VIRGIN MARY AND VIRGIN MARY'S SHIP - On the peninsula of Gradina is a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of the Chapel patronne of the Rogoznica people and harbour.

This is connected to the legend about the miraculous painting found by the fisherman Ivan M. Bogovcic Tumburko.

1772 a fisherman went out to sea to fish and, near the Gradine cape, saw an extraordinary light. When he approached the rock off which the light shone he found a picture of the Virgin Mary.

The fisherman took the picture home with him and placed it into a treasure chest. But the picture of the Virgin Mary returned to the place where he had found it in an unexplainable way, and that action was repeated three times. Soon after, the inhibitains of the village Rogoznica, together with the local priest, dedicated to build a chapel on that spot.

The ceremony is held each 2. July on the Petrovcica. The picture is taken by the ship, in the company of a priest and young girls dressed in white, to the Caparinova waterfront. There, the picture is welcomed by the Bishop accompanied by a many priests and belivers. From the Caparinova waterfront starts a procession which then goes along the Rogoznica waterfront, and the picture of the Virgin Mary is taken to the parish church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The picture remains in the parish church until the first Sunday after Our Lady of Karmela, when it returned in festive procession by land and sea to its sanctuary on the Gradina Cape. A hundred boats and thousands of pilgrims participate in the procession. Many of pilgrims walk with no shoes.

1887. there was an epidemic of black measles and up to 40 people died daily. The local priest gathered the believers and they went barefoot on a pilgrimage to the sanctuary of the Virgin Mary, begging her for mercy. From that day people in Rogoznica stopped dying..

DRAGON'S EYE - The Gradina peninsula is also the site of the lake of Dragon's eye, with sea water. The lake is considered to be a natural bioreactor with biochemical processes taking place there. Irregular in shape, measuring approximately 10,000 m², the lake is surrounded with vertical cliffs height of 4 to 24 meters above sea level. The bottom of the lake is sediment with a maximum depth of 15 meters near the middle of the lake. People in Rogoznica have passed the legend of the dragon and the brothers who had at the site of the lake a field that was fertile, and yields are fairly shared. One of the brothers was blind and he warned his brother to continue to be fair, because if you cheat, the country will be invaded, the field will sink into the water and out of the water will jump the dragon that will devour him. But the brother didn't listen and the curse was realized. The dragon swallowed a dishonest brother. Since then, the dragon settled in the lake and its breath poisoned the creatures in it. When the lake changes its colour, people call it 'awakening of the dragon'. The inhabitants of Rogoznica swim in the lake, the kids jump from the rocks, and some believe that the lake has beneficial effects on health. Be sure to visit it and take a jump if you like.

MARINA FRAPA - Marina Frapa one of the most beautiful marinas in Croatia. It is situated in the Rogoznica, in the central part of the Croatian coast. Marina have a 400 berths and numerous facilities, but there you can also find swimming pool, tenniss court, squash, bowling, table tennis and sauna.

PRIMOSTEN is 15 km from us. Primosten is one of the most popular tourist resorts in Dalmatia (tourism has been developing in an organized way since the sixties) and ranks among the most picturesque small towns on the Adriatic, with a number of typical narrow streets in the old town core on a small, hilly peninsula. Apart from nice beaches in the town and in the vicinity of the hotels, there is also a nudist beach on the island of Smokvica. Various sports and recreational opportunities include tennis, table tennis, bowling, beach volleyball and yachting. Yachting and diving schools are also provided. Visitors may choose between 50-odd restaurants, taverns, etc. The most famous local speciality is spiny lobster a la Primosten. The discotheque Aurora is the largest one in Dalmatia. In 30-odd villages and hamlets of Primosten Burnji, in the hinterland of Primosten, tourists are offered board and lodging. Very interesting is a large selection of home-made food: prosciutto, cheese in olive oil, lamb, roasted meat, wholesome and macrobiotic food - chickpea, olive oil, lentils, and other traditional dishes. Tasting of the famous local red wine, Babic, is a must. Babic is produced from the autochthonous wine sort in the famous vineyards of Primosten, located in the rocks. These vineyards are granted the official status of a monument to human efforts and their representation is also found in the lobby of the -United Nations building in New York. Excursions are regularly organized: Primosten Wine Trail (sightseeing tour through the villages of Primosten Burnji), visits to Krapanj (Museum of Sponge Collecting) and Zlarin (so-called "coral tours. The parish church of St. George, erected on top of the elevation in the 15th century, was thoroughly reconstructed in 1760. It keeps the icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary with silver adornments and a representation of St. Mary with Sts. Luke and George, a work by Master Cusi from 1719. The entrance into the town features a Baroque chapel from 1790. - The hamlet of Krusevo features the mediaeval church of St. Martin (tombstones on the cemetery), in Siroka is the church of St. Jerome from 1460 and in Prhovo the mediaeval church of St. George, later reconstructed.

TROGIR, 25 km from us - a town which today is on the UNESCO list of the World Cultural Heritage as the best preserved Romanesque-Gothic town in Central Europe, offers a lot of sights that are worth visiting.

Must-see sights are: Cathedral of Saint Lawrence with its remarkable portal by Master Radovan, the Kamerlengo Fortress, the Town Gate, the ?ipiko Palace, the Town Hall, the Church of Saint Nicholas, the city museum, the picture gallery and the 'Kairos' art collection.

SPLIT is 45 km from us. The first inhabitant of Split was the Roman emperor Diocletian who started to build his palace in this friendly bay around 293 AD. After his abdication he withdrew to this luxurious palace of about 30 thousand square meters.

The following turbulent centuries made the palace into a town first populated by the citizens of the nearby Salona, fleeing before Avars and Slavs. The town overgrew the walls of the palace and its authorities kept changing - from Croatian kings in 10th century AD, Hungarian and Venetian administration, to French rulers and Austro-Hungarian monarchy.

Such past left its traces combined in the town everyday life. The city, however, went on remaining the centre of this part of the coast till our day. This mixture of historic layers brought some clumsiness and some things done too fast but today all that makes a part of its originality.

The big city today lives by the silent beats of history, lively spirit of the young and its particular Mediterranean charm.

ZADAR (120km from us) has wonderfull attractions:

Sea Organ is situated near the new cruiser port, as a part of Zadar´s Riva, and can be observed as a differently shaped part of the coast which consists of several stairs that descend into the sea. The stairs extend for about 70 meters along the coast, under them, at the lowest sea-tide level, 35 pipes of different lenght, diameter and tilts were built in vertically to the coast and they raise aslant until the paved part of the shore and end in a canal (a service corridor). On the pipes there are LABIUMS (whistles), which play 7 chords of 5 tones. Above the canal there are perforated stone stairs through which the sound comes out, the air pushed by the sea.

This site is a blend of human ideas and skills and the energy of the sea, waves, tide and flood, a place for relaxation, contemplation and conversation while listening to an endless concert of mystic harmonies of the "Orchestra of Nature"

After the world-known Sea Organs, Zadar has become wealthier with one more urban installation. On Istarska obala, at the very end of the Zadar peninsula, next to the famous Sea Organs, shines the Greeting to the Sun .

The Greeting to the Sun consists of three hundred multi-layered glass plates placed on the same level with the stone-paved waterfront in the shape of a 22-meter diameter circle. Under the glass conduction plates there are photo-voltage solar modules through which symbolic communication with nature is made, with the aim to communicate with light, just like the Sea Organs do with sound.

Simultaneously with the „most beautiful sunset in the world" the lighting elements installed in a circle turn on, and, following a particularly programmed scenario, they produce a marvelous, exceptionally impressive show of light in the rhythm of the waves and the sounds of the Sea organs.

The Greeting to the Sun installation, as a model of the solar system with its appertaining planets, is connected to the Sea Organs whose sound is transposed into a show of light that starts performing on the Zadar waterfront after sunset. In creating the lighting effects, the installation will be able to receive other outer, spontaneous impulses through modem connection, while the lighting pictures will adapt to different occasions.

The attractiveness of the Sea Organs, for which the esteemed Zadar architect Nikola Baši? has received numerous international and national awards, has charmed not only Zadar and Croatia, but also the entire world, and there is no doubt that Zadar has acquired a new and excellent attraction with its Greeting to the Sun.

Kalelarga, also known as the Wide Street (Široka ulica), is the main and most famous street in the city of Zadar. Some people say it is even older than the city itself, spreading in the direction west - east from People´s Square (Narodni trg) to the city's famous Forum which features a number of Roman items.

To this day it follows the print of the main longitudinal roman street (Decumanus Maximus) - this is the main city street that even then flowed through the spine of the peninsula. It existed, therefore, before the city. The strict roman urbanization simply proved its natural placement, and future urban time periods did not change anything in that respect.

In the Second World War almost all the buildings in the street were destroyed or severely damaged in the bombing, as such it was renovated in the Modern style, retaining only its main direction.

Rogoznica

Razanj is a small fishing village near our bay Mezaroca, in which residence live from the sea and olive trees. Every morning they sell daily fresh fish on small fish market in the center of the village.

The area of Razanj is full of lovely pebble beaches with cristal clear sea. There is great fish restaurant Movar 500 meters from us. Just above the village of Razanj a mountain Movar with the Fortress, which is absolutely amazing.
