The Castries region
Castries in the north of the island is the Capital of St Lucia and a popular cruise liner destination. There is much history in the area particularly relating to the French versus British colonisation of the island.
Rodney Bay is very near the Northern tip of St Lucia and is very much the happening area with its vibrant bars, restaurants, shopping malls and marina. The Reduit beach is one of the best on the island. Pigeon Island, a National Trust property is rich in history with nice beaches, snorkelling and a quirky but very good restaurant in the style of the Pirates of the Caribbean. The marina is a fun place to be on Friday and Saturday nights when the bands are playing on the Boardwalk near one of the six restaurants. Friday night is Jump Up in Gros Islet, an experience not to be missed.
