Home description
We chose this area, after many years of thinking we might have a place of our own, from the whole south coast, as having the most even climate, good beaches (ranging from pebbles upwards), easy to get to and no need for a hire car - there is excellent public transport , and the area is not too busy. Roquebrune Cap Martin is a working town, with everything you need : internet cafe, health food shop, the usual local shops, a couple of small supermarkets, with a small market most days, and so on.
The top of the building is at road level, we are one level down with easy by stairs or lift. It is a good sized apartment with a nice south facing terrace giving a view from Cap Martin all the way around to Italy. The town and shops are 5 to 10 minutes walk away. There is a lift in the car park that goes down to garden level at the front of the building, a short spiral staircase then gives easy access to the road below and is a quick (fairly level) way to get to the beach.

The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Alpes-Maritimes region
Roquebrune Cap Martin is just around the corner from Monaco, you can walk the 'Corbusier Way' around the Cap to Monaco in about 3 hours, and get the bus or train back. Menton lies in the other direction, it is contiguous with Roquebrune Cap Martin. Menton market is about 50 minutes walk away, this is open 7 days (no fish sunday or monday though). It is an ancient town, known as the Pearl of France for its micro-climate, it is a famed citrus growing area. The Italian border is about a 15 drive minute. The typical old town of Roquebrune Cap Martin is up the hill towards Monaco, it is quite compact with a couple of small restaurants, one Corsican/Sicilian - Casarella, is particularly recommended. Castillon just to the North is an artisan village, and Sospel, another ancient town is a bit further away.
Rocquebrune-Cap-Martin area
There is always a lot going on along the Cote d'Azur - fireworks, jazz, art, car racing. Monaco, Menton, Nice, Cannes, St Tropez, are all within easy reach. There are lots of interesting towns and villages behind Nice and Menton, and the Parc Mercantour is within reach. People swim in the sea all year round, but not so many in winter. Owing to its very sheltered location under the Alps it can be quite warm in mid-winter, if the sun is out you can dine al fresco on the terrace.
How to get there
There are low cost flights to Nice, Nimes (3 hours by car) or Genoa (2.5 hours by car); the TGV to goes to Menton, then take a local train to Carnoles, 1 stop, about 5 minutes back towards Monaco.
If flying in, then all these take an about an hour to an hour and a half altogether: From Nice airport either hire a car, or taxi/bus to the Nice Gare SNCF then take a train to Carnoles, or taxi/walk to Nice Gare St Augustin then take a train to Carnoles, or a bus to Gare Routiere then catch the local bus (about 3 Euro return) which stops 100m away from the door, or take the airport bus to Hotel Victoria which stops about 500 metres away.
