The West Country / Cornwall region
North Cornwall has unique character all year round. Through October, November, Christmas and New Year is the time for bracing walks, exploring museums or the Eden Project and delicious gourmet meals. Spring is the time to visit the lovely Cornish gardens such as The Lost Gardens of Heligan. May, June and September are perfect for preschool children; July and August are for all the family to have fun together.
As well as water skiing and banana boating, the Camel Ski School offers Ski lessons, Equipment hire, Banana boat rides, Boat repairs and storage, Engine servicing and Qualified Instuctors' Training to Instructor level for power boats and water skiing, essential in the summer months on this busy estuary (01208) 862727.
The Camel School of Seamanship, RYA and AALA licensed sailing school, provides sailing lessons for every level or you can rent your own Cornish Shrimper or Wayfarer and enrol in a driving a power boat safely course.
Surfing at Polzeath, rent your wetsuit/ equipment at TJ’ s on the beach. Sightseeing at St Enodoc Church, recovered from the sand dunes and final resting place of Sir John Betjemen. Take the ferry over to the historic fishing port of Padstow and visit Prideaux Place. Walking out to the Rumps to look for seals, or consult the OS map for the huge variety of local scenic walks.
Bike along the Camel Trail, the disused railway line to Wadebridge and Bodmin, rent your bike from Padstow Cycles or Glynn Davies. Golf is available for a green fee at Roserrow or St Enodoc Linkside course.
Sea Angling, fun for all the family, all tackle supplied available at the ponton in Rock.
Rock area
Rock is located in North Cornwall on the north side of the Camel Estuary across from the fishing port of Padstow. The name comes from the local quarry where the rocks were used as ballast by sailing ships which had unloaded their cargo across the river.
The village of Rock has many shops, including a bakery, newsagent and post office, a gorgeous delicatessen and a small but excellent supermarket. Many very good restaurants and pubs are in Rock or Padstow. A popular holiday choice.
