Home description

This new addition to the rental market is a fantastic opportunity to realise your dream stone cottage with original beams. A superb family house, with large garden, is set in the tranquil Limousin countryside, and consists of bathroom; 5 bedrooms (3 double, all with en-suite; 2 with twin beds and 1 single – the biggest double also has a single bed and a cot is available). There is a modern comprehensively equipped kitchen with a breakfast room that has dining facilities to seat 4. There is a beamed living room area which has a large stone log burning fireplace and a large dining table that seats 8.

Eating al-fresco is nothing but a delight in the sun, as breakfast can be taken on the gravelled terrace at the front of the house and moved to the back terrace for lunch. The paved bar-b-q area , being roofed, can accommodate 8 seats to escape that hot sun and evening eating. The area is fully equipped with lighting and power point.
The nearest boulangerie is 4km and small supermarkets between 8-11km, with the nearest hypermarkets in Saint Junien, some 25 minutes in the car. Rochechouart, with it’s beautiful and imposing chateau is some 11km away with bars and restaurants and hosts many cultural activities during the months of June; July and August.

This is the land of the lakes and so peaceful that it is a sin to travel home. Fishing is a sublime experience with swimming lakes and their leisure activities available in July and August. Two golf courses are within 20km that will test even the most experienced golfer and clubs can be hired.
The house is positioned in a small commune surrounded by country lanes and beautiful countryside, ideal for cycling and walking and is only interrupted occasionally by a tractor or two.
All linen and towels are supplied within the price. Welcome packs are available.

The Limousin / Auvergne / Haute-Vienne region

The Limousin region, ‘the land of a thousand lakes’ is stunningly beautiful, typified by rolling pastures, woodland of chestnut and oak and dotted with charming ‘meteorite’ stone houses and farms. The land is grazed by sheep and the beautiful glossy chestnut-coloured limousine cattle, renowned for their outstanding beef. It’s like walking back in time, understated, empty roads and full of memories of what life used to be like in a less frantic world.
Whether you want to play golf, pony trek, walk, cycle, ride the white water rapids, swim in the still lakes, immerse yourself in the Limousin’s diverse culture, discover it’s wildlife or totally relax, then the Limousin is for you.

Rochechouart area

Rochechouart is a beautiful walled town, roughly 45km west of Limoges with a claim to fame of being the site of the largest meteorite ever to hit the earth some two hundred million years ago. There is a small museum in the town which attempts to uncover the history of the meteorite.
The building using the stone of the meteorite is the imposing Chateau which stands on the towns edge. There are other Chateau at La Rochefaucauld and Chalus and if you follow the Richard the Lionhart route, many more can be viewed.
Hot and cold Roman baths are found on the Chabanais road at Chassenon and are ample testimony to the magnificence of Roman bath houses.
There is the Velo-Rail (bicycle-rail) experience at Manot and two main routes are to be found : Roumazieres to Manot (7.5km) and Confolens to Manot (32km) A perfect way to exercise and view the countryside.
Limoges is famous for it’s porcelain and the nearest factory and outlet is in Aixe sur Vienne. A fascinating experience.
For both restaurants and markets, the area is known for its quality and will suit many varying tastes. Details can be obtained from our Help Guide left in the house.
