The Midi-Pyrenees / Gers region
You'll love our charming home, hidden away amongst the vinyards of St. Mont and its traditional unspoilt environment. Tasting the local produce of wines and armagnac is a must. The gers is the capital for producing fois gras which is served in most restaurants. The region is also where D'Artagnan the musketeer lived and in Lupiac you can visit the museaum. Its close proximity to Spain offers a big spanish influence and you will find a bull ring in most local towns. The gers has numerous opportunity for fishing, in the lakes and the Adour River, permits can be purchased locally. There is golf at Eauze and Pallane with 18 hole golfing, practice drive, putting greens, pools and restaurants. www.golf-midi-pyrenees.com/english. The pyrenees have all to offer, rambling, climbing, canoeing, caving and skiing in the winter. Lourdes is also very close and worth a visit. The Atlantic coast known for its surfing is only 1 hour away, and biarritz offers a lovely day out, with sea food restaurants galore.
Riscle area
Most villages or towns will be 'en fete' at some point throughtout the summer so there is always local entertainment. Riscle boasts 6 restaurant/bars so you will never be at a loss for somewhere to eat, or to just sit and watch the world go by. Of course if you fancy doing something yourself, Riscle has boulangeries, patisseries and 2 small supermarkets. The market takes place on Fidays and offers all the fruit and veg you can imagine, not to mention its fresh fish. Why not take a picnic to one of the tranquil spots besid the river adour. You can also hire canoes for paddling the Adour or bikes for cycling the never ending lanes. There is also a fabulous pool and chilrens pool. There are numerous swimming lakes with beaches and flumes nearby. Numerous music festivals occur including the world famous jazz festival at Marciac, and Vic Fezenzac offers Tempo Latino where there are street barbecues and dancing for 3 days and nights! The battle of the bands takes place in Condom, in which 35 local bands take part. If you like speed Nogaro (15 mins away) boasts its own race track with bikes, cars and lorry shows. You can even try it yourself. If your not quite that adventurous there is karting at Mont de Marsan and Termes d'armagnac. Termes is our local chateau and has its own medieval shows and banquets. Or if you fancy a water theme park, why not try Walibi fun park. Cahuzac also offers water skiing and other related activities. In the pyrenees there are trips through caves and train trips around the mountains, from Artouste. Spa towns and much more.
