Just a short drive from Riogordo, with many bars/restaurants, supermarkets, bakers and butchers, Horno de Leña has two bedrooms, a private jacuzzi hot tub and large saline pool overlooking the most amazing countryside.
Horno de leña was once the local bakery for the hamlet, and now provides ideal self catering accommodation for those looking for peace and tranquillity, yet being well located for sight seeing in Andalucia.
This most charming Cottage has been restored retaining all the traditional features, including oak beams, solid terracotta floors and traditional wood windows with shutters.
For a chill out holiday in stunning surroundings, look no further. The hot tub jacuzzi heats to 40 degrees and is ideal for those star filled nights.

The Costa del Sol/Malaga region
Driving along the Costa del Sol overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, about 30 minutes away from Malaga Airport you will enter La Axarquia, a rural region still unspoilt by tourism. Green countryside with white-washed villages, tranquillity and a different way of life under the year-round sunshine of Andalucia are waiting for you.
Going up from Torre del Mar into the mountains you will reach Lake Viñuela, a man-made reservoir surrounded by mountains, not only providing the area with water but also forming a spectacular and harmonic part of attraction of this unique and scenic landscape. here you will find several bars/restaurants offering fantastic food.
Heading inland from here you will reach the charming village of Riogordo, nestled into this stunning countryside with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Riogordo translates to Fat River, which is what the village is know for. Torre del Mar with beaches and all facilities is 20 min away.
Riogordo area
The pretty whitewashed village of Riogordo lies in the region of Axarquia. This small and unspoilt area of Andalucia - to the north east of Malaga - is still a well kept secret. Untouched by mass tourism, and surrounded by National Parks it is designated an area of outstanding natural beauty between the Sea and Sierras.
The village offers very reasonable local restaurants and excellent shopping facilities. Only 20 minutes to the Mediterranean coast, and 40 minutes to Malaga international airport. Due to good motorway connections, Granada and Antequera can be reached in 1 hour, Cordoba and Seville in 2 hours. Lake Vinuela is 10 mins by car.
The village of Riogordo is five minutes away by car where most grocery items may be purchased as well as freshly baked bread. Fresh fish, four butcher's and two banks. Wednesday there is a street market. There is a good choice of local restaurants and bars near by, as well as dozens to choose from at the coast, catering for all tastes. 24 hour medical centre in nearby Colmenar.
How to get there
Flights to Malaga. Malaga airport is only 30 mins. Granada airport is 1 hour.
Very easy to find. Very good road network and directions to the house. Owner available on the end of the phone, should you get lost.

Further details indoors: The Cottage has been well restored and has been decorated in a traditional style, providing all you could need during your stay. It has a comfy feel and is more than just a rental. The lounge is ideal for those wanting to escape the mid day sun, or for those nights in.
There are two comfy sofas that convert to sofa beds, should extra sleeping be required. There is a TV with video, DVD/CD and a selection of videos and CDs.
For those winter lets, there is a charming wood burner stove. In the lounge along with a mobile gas heater. The beamed dining room, has a solid oak table and four chairs.
In the traditional kitchen, there is a modern cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer and all necessary for your catering needs. The kitchen leads directly to the outside shaded dining area with BBQ.
There is a charming double bedroom along with a twin bedroom. Both bedrooms have hanging space and drawers. Fans provided in both rooms.
The shower room has a walk in shower, basin and toilet. In the lobby is a washing machine.
All bedding and towels are provided. After one weeks stay, a full set will be given to you for your second week.
Further details outdoors: Horno de Leña has private parking. As you arrive to the cottage, you have your own parking area. The steps lead to your own private entrance. You have several terraces, one with a large gazebo providing a shaded dining area along with brick built BBQ. Down on the other terrace you have the private jacuzzi overlooking the stunning countryside.
Down through the well maintained and established gardens, you come to the pool. The pool is for guests use only and is maintained for you twice weekly.
There is a large wooden gazebo with dining for 6 people. loungers are provided along with purpose built sun umbrellas.
The pool has the latest laser lighting for night use. There are views from every terrace. At night Comares is lit up in the distance.
The Cottage adjoins our Cortijo, although has its own entrance, terraces, private jacuzzi and use of the pool. We are here if you need anything, yet totally respect your privacy.

We stay in this cottage several times a year. We love the comfy furnishings and spend many hours in the jacuzzi. This January was our third year. Obviously we love it. Jason and Siobhan.
