The Andalucia region
Driving along the Costa del Sol overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, about 30 minutes away from Malaga Airport you will enter La Axarquia, a rural region still unspoilt by tourism. Green countryside with white-washed villages, tranquility and a different way of life under the year-round sunshine of Andalucia are waiting for you.
Going up from Torre del Mar into the mountains you will reach Lake Viñuela, a man-made reservoir surrounded by mountains, not only providing the area with water but also forming a spectacular and harmonic part of attraction of this unique and scenic landscape. here you will find several bars/restaurants offering fantastic food.
Heading inland from here you will reach the charming village of Riogordo, nestled into this stunning countryside with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Riogordo translates to Fat River, which is what the village is know for. . Torre del Mar with beaches and all facilities is 20 min away.
The pretty whitewashed village of Riogordo lies in the region of Axarquia. This small and unspoilt area of Andalucia –to the north east of Malaga - is still a well kept secret. Untouched by mass tourism, and surrounded by National Parks it is designated an area of outstanding natural beauty between the Sea and Sierras.
The village offers very resonable local restaurants and excellent shopping facilities. Only 20 minutes to the Mediterranean coast, and 40 minutes to Malaga international airport. Due to good motorway connections, Granada and Antequera can be reached in 1 hour, Cordoba and Seville in 2 hours. Lake Vinuela is 10 mins by car.
It is five minutes drive from La Capilla to the pretty white washed village of Riogordo in the region of Axarquia. The village is typically Andalucian with its winding streets and large selection on restaurants ranging from tapas bars, a pizzeria and several high class restaurants. Riogordo has a large selection of small shops including three mini markets which sell freshly baked bread every day, a pharmacy, four butchers, a fishmonger, a weekly market, a shop for stamps, a Post Office and two banks. The 24 hour Health Centre is situated in the next village of Colmenar.
Just 10 minutes drive and you will find the outstanding Lake Vinuela with many bar/restaurants and a little further to the coastal town of Torre del mar with its famous fish restaurants. Nerja just 10 minutes further along the coast is well worth a visit. Excellent roads are easily accessible to visit Granada (1 hour), Antequera (30 minutes), Ronda and Gibralter (under 2 hours),Cordoba and Seville (2.30 hours).

Thank for your review. We think you have just summed up in a nutshell , what La Capilla offers.
The local villages is near enough to enjoy a truly Spanish experience , yet far enough away to still enjoy total seclusion, whilst chilling in the hot tub or pool.
We are so pleased you enjoyed your 2 weeks with us, Julian and myself as you found out, respect your privacy whilst you are here, but we are always there should guests need any advice or assistance during their stay. Hope you had a good few days in Nerja when you left.

"Nice house, bad owner dialog"
La Capilla is a beautifull House in the mountains of Riogordo. The Road to the House is in bad condition and a bit scary to drive at. We stayed for 8 days in April. The correspondance with the owner prior to our stay was ok, but we first had the address to the house the day before our stay! The kitchen was not as clean as we like a kitchen to be. The problem started when we should have our deposit back. I noticed after a while that i didnt have a mail from the owner and contacted them to hear if they had returned the money. I wrote so many mails witout getting a reply!!!! The owner then said she couldnt use swift and iban ( Allthough I paid them by their own Iban and swiftaccount!!!). Very frustrating. I totally understand that overseas bank transfer can course problems, but I cant understand how you can Ignore to pay a deposit back, and not answar mail from a visitor of your house. Not acceptable. We from our experience Can not recommend lenting houses from these owners ( we got our money back 3 month after our stay)
I am sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the cleanliness of the kitchen. I have to say that you are the first person to say this, as we have very good reviews. I am also surprised that you never once made this known to us, in the times we visited to clean the pool and chatted with you. Or since your stay with us. We would have always addressed this, had we been made aware of an issue.
The road to the house, has infact been made good by the council since your stay, this is always carried out in April every year, but I must point out , we do make it known in our advert that we are off the main road and to get such apeaceful , secluded and tranquil location would be hard to find if La Capilla was located on a main road.
With regard to your emails not being responded to and not receiving the address, we send arrival directions out to all arriving guests in plenty of time. There has been a problem using the new system on holiday lettings mail, which I have had to complain about to them, as I was not receiving all my mail and guests were not receiving all their mail, they have now dealt with this problem and mail is not going into spam folders any longer. I can only apologize for the upgrade in their system having teething problems and this affecting you.
You were requested to pay the security deposit by paypal, as this is the easiest way for us to make a refund from Spain to Northern European banks. You refused to do this or for me to refund your money using paypal. I did have a problem with my bank locating your IBAN no, therefore I used the easy paypal method for return of your deposit in the end, which took minutes. This could have been done in the first instance . As you can see , all our guests have not had issues with refunds of security deposits from ourselves.

Thank you for taking the time to review La Capilla. We are always pleased when our guest enjoy their stay. La Capilla is for those guests that want to enjoy the stunning views, have privacy and tranquility, all in a part of Spain that still gives tapas with your drinks and charges locals prices.
We hope to welcome you back one day in the future.

Hi Gillian and co,
Glad you enjoyed your stay at La Capilla. Gas bottles need changing from time to time, in any season, but we are always nearby to give a hand if guests prefer not to change them themselves. Glad we could help straight away and you were not inconvenienced in any way. Hope to see you down from France again in the future. Lisa and Julian

"Nice Villa in a quiet location."
La Capilla was a nice size for our family of 5. The villa is well maintained and comfortable. It has a small unheated pool and a hot tub. We used the hot tub, but the pool was too cold and exposed to use during our stay (early April).
Wifi is available at an extra cost and it is best to contact the owner in advance if you require it.
The location is lovely but very remote so a car is an absolute necessity. The nearest town of Riogordo is a 5 to 10 minute drive from the villa, and there are no facilities within walking distance. The final road up to the villa is unmade and unlit. If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful location to completely unwind and relax then this is a perfect place to be.
Thank you for your review Julie. We are pleased you liked the house and that you had a good stay. The weather when you arrived 28th March, was very changeable, so I dont blame you not using the pool. We provided the spa from 2012 to enable guests to enjoy the outside of La Capilla and its lovely views, even in the cooler months, so we are pleased you benefited from this.
The pool is situated on the other side of the house for total privacy and benefits from total seclusion. This does mean however, it is open and exposed to the to the elements, which in summer, brings a lovely cooling breeze.
The wifi is included in the price in June July and August, but is on request out of season. We do this to try and keep the costs down out of season, then guests can choose if they would like to add the wifi cost.
We hope to welcome you back sometime in the future. As you say this villa is for guests who want privacy tranquility, yet only being a short drive to Riogordo with all amenities. Shame the weather was not better as there is a bar restaurant Ortegas within a short walk. For future guests , details are in the information booklet provided in the house.

Glad you had a good stay. We have taken on board your positive points about the kitchen bits, and have now purchased 3 wooden spoons, two sizes of new non stick pans and a new saucepan for scrambled eggs!!!!! The house does have a lovely stainless steel set which are fab as you know, but I think this may help with the breakfast eggs !!!! We have also purchased a nice new tray and a paella pan. So I think the house is now well equipped, but thank you as we sometimes need these points made.
Bike was safely collected so all was well. Hope to welcome you back one day in the future.

"A haven from the rat race"
Spent two weeks at La Capilla. Reasonably remote location 4K ftom the village. The peace and tranquillity are priceless. Having been off work recently with stress, this holiday was the perfect antidote. I would recommend La Capilla it is a beautifully maintained villa with all the home comforts including a washing machine. I arrived home after two weeks without any washing to do as i did it whilst sunbathing around the pool. The only negative was receiving the directions to the villa the day before travelling. Having said that, the directions were very clear and easy to follow.
Hi, Thanks so much for taking time to review La Capilla. We seemed to have resolved the problem with the directions. As with yourselves, we had sent them out, but you had not received them. We looked into this and it seems that because I attach photos with markers along the way, it was being blocked or sent to spam by some e mail servers. We have now taken the photos off of the arrival doc and all fine. Directions can be sent as early as clients wish. We hope to welcome you back one day and we were pleased that you all enoyed your stay.
