A country retreat in the low mountains between Malaga and Granada. This is a perfect rural hideaway without neighbours, a beautiful restored farmhouse in the middle of an olive grove with panoramic views - even as far as the sea on a clear day. Peace and quiet are the key themes here, no traffic noise just the sounds of the birds and goats. This also has the intimacy of a house that is lived in because the owners in fact live here for quite a bit of the year - it does not have the sterility of a property only used for rentals.
The feel is traditional with modern touches and of course all mod cons - fully equipped kitchen, dvd and sound system, and heating for the winter. The private swimming pool with simple solar heating is 12m x 3m, ideal for lengths or just for lounging. Set in a beautiful garden and surrounding by olive trees, this is about getting away from it all and relaxing. The double beds are particularly comfortable and generous.
The terrace offers al fresco dining from a beautiful Moroccan table and chairs. There is a sun terrace by the pool with loungers and parasols. The large kitchen / diner / sitting room is L-shaped open plan.
The village of Riogordo is a short ride away with all amenities, shops and a regular bus service to Malaga. Malaga is about 40 minutes, Granada 70 minutes, Cordoba and Sevilla about two hours. The beautiful El Torcal and Antequera are very nearby, the beach at Torre del Mar is a 35 minutes drive and the resort of Nerja is a 50 minutes away.
PLEASE NOTE: THE PROPERTY IS ACCESSED VIA A 4km DIRT TRACK, Although it is quite feasible to arrive in the smallest of hire cars, a larger vehicle or even a 4x4 will make the journey more comfortable.

Wildlife abound in the area including wild boar, badgers, foxes, genet, and hedgehog. Birds frequently seen include eagles, eagle owls, hawks, kestrels, nightingales, hoopoo, shriek and turtle doves. Many of these are seen - or heard - at Mariolo.
Riogordo Village has a population of about 3,000 and is 400m above sea level. It is part of the Axarquia sub-region which also includes Velez Malaga and Nerja. The town has an ethnographic museum and two interesting churches of quite different styles. There are many food shops and most basics are available here. Market day is Wednesday.
In Easter Week the villagers reenact the passion of Jesus Christ - EL PASO. This spectacle has become so well known that it was declared a fiesta of national tourist interest in 1996. It takes place between Good Friday and Easter Sunday both during the daytime and at night, with a cast of around 500 people. Up to 25,000 people usually attend each year.

"What a great place"
Mariolo has a fantastic setting; broad views over the wide horizon; surrounded by olive trees and nature and no neighbours. Here you can feel really at peace with yourself and world. The house is modern, stylishly designed with all facilities like a swimming pool and well equipped kitchen.
If I had to complain, the track is very uneven to get there, but I suppose nothing is perfect
