Escape to the beautiful Axarquia region of Malaga Province, where the old country ways of life continue. The house has stunning scenery all around and uninterrupted views across open valleys of olive and almond groves to dramatic distant rocky mountains to the north and east. There is an easy road access and parking.

The house is about 100 years old but has been restored sympathetically to retain its rustic charm. Terraces at front and back offer sun or shade, lovely gardens surround the house and there is splash pool in a secluded spot. It is an ideal location for a peaceful relaxing holiday or for the more adventurous it is as an excellent spot for walking, bike riding or even using the local stables.It can also be used as a base to explore the historic cities of Malaga, Cordoba, Sevilla and Granada.

Accommodation - Entrance hall, kitchen, bathroom, large living and dining room with wood burner. 2 double bedrooms, 1 twin bedroom and 1 dressing room.

There are charming old features in the house - low beamed doorways and Moorish style cupboards and tile work.

The walls of the house are thick and there are shuttered windows with fly screens to keep things cool. Double glazed doors allow plenty of light into the house. There are also electric fans.

The cooker and hot water run on bottled gas, everything else is electric.

It is modern living in a cottage full of history - a real Spanish house. A comfortable home from home.

Outside at the front of the house is a Moorish style courtyard with shade plants and table and chairs together with a large shady umbrella - perfect for outdoor dining.

The lovely gardens surround the house, leading to the two back terraces - one for sunbathing with secluded splash pool, and the another for breakfast or dining, where you can also enjoy a sundowner and the views.

Parking is to the side of the house in a private spot.

Feel free to help yourself to any of the seasonal, organic fruit and vegetables and herbs growing in the garden. We have planted them especially for you to enjoy.

The highlight of the garden is the plunge pool.

How great to be sitting in cool turquoise water on a hot day, glass in hand, soaking up the lovely Spanish sunshine and enjoying the country views.

The Andalucia region

The Axarquia region of Malaga Province is an old Moorish name meaning 'east of Malaga'. This beautiful, unspoilt region is largely undiscovered by tourism.

It is bordered to the north by the rocky Alfanarte Mountain range, and to the south by the sea at Torre del Mar - a short 25 min drive through the olive and almond groves.

This area is also rich in fruit growing, with mango, avocado, orange and lemon groves along the route to the sea. Many of the olive trees are over 1000 years old and date back to the Roman period.

The coast provides a choice of towns from Malaga in the east to Nerja in the west, the beaches are long and largely empty and the towns have all the nightlife and shopping you could want.


Riogordo is a typical white village set above the Gordo (fat) river. The name derives from the fact that the water flows nearly all year due to the limestone Alfanarte mountains immediately to the north of the village.

There is a museum and 2 churches. It is a sleepy place at siesta time (2-5pm) but provides 2 banks and a post office, 3 supermarkets and plenty of bars and small shops, restaurants and a Pizzaria to eat in or takeout.

Overlooking the house to the south is the stunning hilltop village of Comares. An old Moorish stronghold it has dizzying views out across the Axarquia in all directions, heritage walks and local history information. The steep narrow streets are exciting to explore.This village is one of the unknown gems in this region and is totally unspoilt with a great communal pool available for public use in July and August for a small fee.

Lake Vinuela - a short drive across the olive groves from the house has waterside restaurants and is very picturesque.

La Loma is in a brilliant location to explore numerous stunning and unique Spanish villages apart from Riogordo and Comares but also you could simply go for walks , stare at the views and sample the local wines.

The flexibility of this location allows your holiday to be as busy or as relaxing as you like, but rest assured as soon as you get back from a touring or horse riding day - you will head for the plunge pool - just after the fridge !!

"Excellent and comfortable home for a long stay"

We felt at home immediately after arrival, the place gave us a familiar feeling. Especially the guidelines from Jim and Liz, the photographs on the wall, all their personal belongings were in the house so they trusted us to respect them. The area around the property was simply beautiful and also the view from the pool. Though we were with 4 adults and one kid, the pool was big enough for us to have a swim all at once. The terrace also had a nice view and it was close to the garden where we could pick lemons, walnuts, tomatos and other fruits. You could sit in front of the house but also at the back and near the poole. We felt very private there and also the beds were fine. Only the neighbour had a few dogs that started barking now and then and also the cats we found sometimes in the kitchen, the last one only twice though. Besides that I would certainly recommend this property to others. And also the kindness of David's warm welcome and great service, we will never forget!

"Amazing place, I would love to come back there again"

We spent a lovely week in La Loma, the area is absolutely amazing,mountains and the coast nearby, The house is great, really cosy, it would suit everyone who looks for peace and quiet. We would reccomend it to everyone, we are looking to come back there as it's really worth it.

"A lovely cottage in the Spanish Hills"

A delightful cottage with all the facilities one could wish for including a lovely garden and super plunge pool all of which contributed to a most enjoyable and relaxing holiday.However,it is essential to have a car which,of course enables exploration of the surrounding area including the coast and Granada (The Alhambra is most impressive)
