Home description
- The Finca, a 200 year old refurbished farmhouse, nestles into the hillside on its 38,000 sq.m. estate which is planted with figs, vines and some almond. In season avocados and oranges can also be enjoyed from the immediate gardens and lemons picked from the tree by the kitchen door.
- It has its own private pool, with a protected shallow section perfect for small children. Generous terraces are furnished with a table and chairs for dining al-fresco. The living room has a spacious balcony with stunning sea views and with three double and one single bedroom, the farmhouse is ideal for families, with plenty in the surrounding area to see and do during your stay.
- For those who enjoy simply lazing by the pool or soaking up the sun on the beach, walking or cycling in unspoilt countryside, visiting historic cities and villages, shopping in the local markets or sophisticated town centres or, indeed, a combination of any or all of these pleasures, this is an idyllic holiday destination
- The site was the subject of the Channel 4 "Grand Designs Abroad " programme when a new house built on the estate was featured. Viewing of the new house can be arranged.

The Costa del Sol/Malaga region
The Costa del Sol stretches along just over 150 kilometres of Málaga province and is one of Spain's most popular tourist destinations. The area's mild climate is the root attraction that makes it possible to enjoy the beaches and a wide variety of outdoor activities. The area is suitable for holidays or short breaks all the year round. Spring inevitably is abundant with wild flowers, the "campo" becoming covered with drifts of blues, purples, yellows, oranges and reds. Early migratory birds such as hoopoos are often seen in the fields. Even with the little winter rainfall the hillsides are remarkably green. Summer is hot and the grasses turn into waiving golden strands, the wild fennel now two meters high. There is surprisingly little if no autumn colour but the countryside starts to settle down for the winter. The crickets are now silent and the migrating birds; swallows, swifts, bee eaters, kites etc. fly through the valleys. Throughout the year Bonettiś eagles fly over head paying us a visit from their nesting sites in the nearby national parks. Winter, or December at least is mild, with typical daytime temperatures of 17°. Christmas in Málaga is spectacular. All the main streets have festive lights, roundabouts are decorated with scenes from the Nativity and the main coastal avenue some 1/2 Km. long is lined with Christmas boutiques on both sides. January and February are cold and sometimes wet, but by this time any rain is welcomed.
Eastern Costa del Sol This is the the 54 kilometre stretch of coast to the east of Málaga city (the capital of Málaga province). Though highly developed from a property point of view, it is not anything like that on the western Costa del Sol. From Malaga eastwards there are cliffs of up to 200 meters where the Sierra Almijara joins the sea. This section ends at a place called Mara, on a coastal plain. It has an urban landscape surrounded by traditional agriculture. There are many resorts on this coast. As well as Rincon de la Victoria there are many attractive holiday resorts in the area with attractive and unspoiled beaches directly accessible from the road.
Rincon de la Victoria / Moclinejo area
The finca is a twelve minute drive from Rincon de la Victoria, an expanding Spanish holiday town where there are numerous bars and restaurants, many on the beach itself providing a very large variety of food at varying prices. The standard "menu de dia", a three course meal is generally available priced at €7. It is well served with supermarkets as well as a good variety of small family shops. At Totolan, nearby, there is a very large commercial shopping centre with a Carrefour supermarket, clothes and shoe shops and a multi screen cinema and fast food outlets. There some interesting caves known as "Cuevas del Tesoro" in whch wall paintings have been found.
The nearest village, Moclinejo is 2km to the north of the Finca and has lively restaurant/bar, baker, and a small, but well stocked, supermarket. it is well worth strolling through its narrow streets and visiting the church and main square. There is also a "bodega" where local pleasantly sweet Málaga wine is made and sold. The grapes grown in the area are Muscatel and mainly used for making rasins. The grapes are laid on large south facing sloping beds and dried by the sun.
Immediately accessible from the Finca are numerous tracks and footpaths for hilly country walks, with spectacular 360° panoramas. The Bay of Málaga can be clearly seen and occasionally Gibraltar and the Atlas mountains in Morocco are visible.
On the drive to Rincon de la Victoria, there is a larger village, or small town "pueblecito" called Benagalbon which has many attractive bars and restaurants as well as a well stocked supermarket and a pharmacy, Locally produced olive oil can be bought in the village . There are many interesting places to visit in Màlaga, namely - Piccasso's birthplace - The Piccasso Meuseum, very new with changing exhibits - The Cathedral - The Gibralfaro and Alcazaba. the Moorish castle and palace with stunning views of the bullring and harbour as well as the city itself. - The Roman ampitheatre. - Botanical gardens Interesting visits to Malaga can be made during Easter week to attend one of the many processions.
There are local Fiestas lasting from one day to a week in all the small villages and are too numerous to mention. Details of these can be provided. There will be the inevitable "paella" prepared on the last day of the fiesta for 600 people - and it's free!
Those interested in food will have the choice of a large variety of sea food. Many varieties of shellfish "mariscos", just out of the sea, are simply cooked in a wine and garlic sauce. Look out for the local speciality "conchas finas" available only on this coast line. It is a type of clam the size of an oyster, but brightly coloured, and served simply opened in its shell with a wedge of lemon. The typical Malaguanian dish is a plateful of several varieties of small lightly battered deep fried fish. The best, however is fresh fish grilled "a la plancha". All drinks are cheap and the waiters are friendly. I need say no more. For the more easily satisfied there is a Burger King and yes, MacDonalds as well as lots of Pizza houses.

Guestbook for Finca el Apañao
We had a really lovely time. The welcome pack was particularly good and everything was clean, tidy and comfortable. The house and surroundings are beautiful and the pool was great. The holiday was much better than a package hotel deal. We shall recommend it to all our friends and family. "Viva la Finca" Kelly, Deborah, Sarah, Nicoña, Suzi, Louise and Roslyn. Belfast N.I.
The house is excellently furnished and equipped and the gardens and pool are very beautiful. Mrs. Van den Ende, Utrech the Netherlands.
