La Fage is a 160 year old converted barn which retains it's character and charm with exposed beams and a woodburner taking centre stage.

Situated off the beaten track in the small hamlet of La Fage surrounded by beautiful open countryside, the perfect place to unwind and explore.

This detached character gite with private terrace is set in the heart of the Aveyron countryside and yet only 10 mins from the shops, bars and cafes of the market village of Rignac.

I have furnished the gite tastefully and decorated it to a give a homely feel and with your comfort in mind, and I know that cooking is probably not on the top of your list but I have equipped the kitchen with everything you should need should you become fed up with being waited on in the local restaurants

Both double bedrooms have vaulted ceilings and downstairs the living/kitchen area is open plan with two double doors leading onto your private patio with barbecue where you can sit out on a warm evening and barbecue until your hearts content.

The lounge also has exposed beams and a glass fronted wood burner ideal for those chilly winter breaks.

I have provided the gite with a cool box and picnic service if you prefer to eat outside. Sun loungers are also provided and you have two gardens, one for sunbathing and reading in and if all that relaxing in the sun gets a bit too much you could always eat your lunch on the picnic bench under your willow tree in your other garden.

The biggest decision you will have to make all week is which garden to sit in !!!!

There is also a children's playpen, cot and highchair available if required just to make life just a little easier!

The Midi-Pyrenees region

The regions' landscape changes with every turn of the road. From deep river valleys and undulating hills to views of nearby mountains. This landscape covers the lower valley of the Lot, the gorges and the valley of the Aveyron.

The regional food of foie gras, aligot and stockfish are a must to be tried and if you get bored of eating you could always pop into a wine cave for a snifter or two!

There is also a weekly market in the bastide town of Villefranche de Rouergue which is said to be the best in the region, or you could book a canoe for an hour, 1/2 day/whole day just to cruise throught the Gorges of the Aveyron but if you prefer to sit up a bit higher you could go horse riding through the vineyards of the Marcillac valley or if you fancy using you own two feet there are lots of walks in the area I can recommend or translate for you.

The Aveyron department is steeped in history and has something for everyone.

The world famous bridge at Millau, the eagles at Rocamadour, the sking in the Aubrac mountains, the wolves being fed in the grounds of the chateau Colombiers, the cheese caves of Roquefort, the town St Antonin Val Noble where the Chocolat and Charlotte Grey were filmed, the world heritage site of Conques, the cave houses of Cirq Lapopie, the medieval village of Najac and so it goes on.

The Aveyron...the well guarded secret that even the French are surprised at it's richness in history.

Rignac

There is so much to see and do in this area.

In the next valley there is Mirabel a village used by the French resistance and the village of Belcastel with it's chateau and 2 gourmet restaurants or if you fancy a bit of DIY you can take a picnic down to the Aveyron river flowing through the medieval village of Previnquieres.

All within 10 mins drive from the gite!

The village of Rignac is a 7 min drive and holds a small weekly market and has a well stocked local shop, an excellent butcher, a pharmacy, 2 mouthwatering boulangeries a post office and a haberdashery and something that defines every French village...5 hairdressers!!!!

There is also a park with a lake, tennis courts and an open air swimming pool.

"Superb Gite in Stunning Location"

A perfect holiday from beginning to end.

We arrived at the gite without hiccup having followed Lynne's excellent directions from Rodez airport. The drive was approximately 30 minutes and very straightforward. The gite was everything we wanted it to be and more. Beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and oozing rustic charm. It was well equipped with all you could need including fabulous power shower and super comfortable beds. (We slept for 11 hours on the first night!)

There are two outdoor seating areas, the first catching the morning sun, ideal for breakfast and enjoying free range eggs, fresh from Lynne and Gary's chickens. The second seating area, catching the afternoon/evening sun where we basked in the last few rays of the day whilst dining on the most amazing local goats cheese and fine local wine.

In between these moments of relaxation and indulgence we weren't short of things to do. There is plenty of informative information in the gite about the surrounding area including a very handy welcome folder which became our travel buddy for the week, taking us to delightful medieval villages and châteaux, bustling markets, stunning gorges and fascinating prehistoric grottos.

In summary, this was an unforgettable holiday experience, rated our best to date in France. A huge thanks to Lynne and Gary who are a delightful couple and were the perfect hosts. We plan to return to "La Fage" for a family celebration in 2015 as a party of 8 and also rent out their other gite “Un petit coin de France.”

"Tranquility and Splendid Location"

If there was ever an antidote to city hustle-and-bustle, this is it! Perfect tranquility in glorious countryside, in a beautiful gite which was very comfortable, spotlessly clean and equipped with everything we could want. The picnic set got used every day! We found La Fage wonderfully situated for exploring the area - Conques, Rocamadour, Belcastel, St Cirq-Lapopie, Bruniquel, Cordes-sur-Ciel, Roquefort, Grotte du Peche Merle, and others. We agree with Gary that the Thursday market at Villefranche is not to be missed - amazing and delicious variety in a gorgeous setting. An unanticipated treat was an evening visit to the very nearby Peyrusse-le-Roc - ancient evocative ruins in a quiet, deep valley that gave us a vertigo-inspiring thrill climbing up to the tower. Gary and Lynne were very gracious and helpful hosts, making our stay even better with great advice. We only wish we could have stayed longer to do some of the lovely walks starting right from La Fage……

""A super gite run by a super couple”"

La Fage was wonderful set in peaceful countryside in a small Hamlet.
The major attraction in the area are the Villages of France, we enjoyed all our visits to these stunning sites. The market at Villefranche was the best we've been to.
The gite had everything you could need and was very tastefully decorated. The overall conversion is very impressive.
Gary and Lynne were extremely friendly and helpful you really couldn't wish for a nicer couple
We intend to return as soon as possible…..
