The Lazio region

Fifty kilometres north-east of Rome, following the eastern bank of the Tiber River and the Sabine Hills, lies the territory of Sabina, in the heart of Lazio. Its landscape of gentle hills where agriculture is in perfect harmony with the surrounding nature, is scattered with Roman villas, medieval castles, churches and abbeys.
Untouched by mass tourism, undisturbed by the historical events of recent centuries, this territory is still authentic and unspoilt.
The ancient traditions of Sabina, entwined with religion and agriculture, can still be experienced during the many local fairs which are held frequently throughout the seasons.
From early spring, to late autumn, medieval villages are filled with a festive atmosphere, culminating with beautiful fireworks. You can't miss these events if you want to taste the local gastronomic specialities.
These are country style dishes, made with the area’s first class agricultural products..
Extra virgin olive oil from Sabina, with its DOP recognition, is the absolute ingredient in this cuisine; the olive tree has been a constant element of the Sabine landscape since the times of ancient Rome.

Rieti / Magliano Sabina area

The estate is found within the Magliano Sabina area, a small village with just 4000 inhabitants which overlooks the Tiber Valley. Testament to the area’s rich past is found in some of the various digs which have brought to the light finds from the prehistoric period to the Ancient Roman era. From here, along pleasant country roads, (or by using the motorway if you prefer), you can easily reach some of the most important artistic sights of central Italy. Rome, Umbria, Tuscany are just a stones throw away, and very easy accessible by train or car.

How to get there

Fly to Rome (Fiumicino or Ciampino Airport), Magliano Sabina is just 1 hour 20 min by car from both airports.
You can reach our property by train (from Rome or Fiumicino) or by car. Coming from Rome, Magliano Sabina is the third exit of the motorway A1.

Agriturismo Santa Cristina is much more than just “a villa for rent”. It has a personality that reflects the fine tradition of Italian hospitality. We truly felt at home here. It was also perfectly located for what we wanted to do. Spend quiet family time for Easter and visit Rome and as many of the other wonderful towns in the area as we could: Orte, Otricoli, Viterbo, Spoleto, Orvieto, to name a few. Don’t miss any of them! In summary: Nonnie Joha liked the people; Nonnie Linda liked the viuews…and the prosecco! Auntie Beanie liked the sensations… and the wine, Mommie Jeannie liked the shopping… and the food, Daddy Johnny liked his first visit to Rome and the “principessa” 3rd old Josephine loved it all!

Dear Laurentia, We have all arrived back home safely from Italy, and I wanted to write you a quick note to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay in Santa Cristina! The house was fantastic. What a magnificent setting among the rolling hills and olive trees. The house itself was clean, cool, and comforting. The pool was a refreshing addition that we were all so happy to have! The locals in the town of Magliano Sabina could not have been nicer to my entire family, and we really enjoyed a couple meals at Zio Lillo! Again, thank you for everything, and we will be sure to recommend your villas to family and friends for the future. I hope to return someday myself! Ciao! Sarah

Dear Laurentia, My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your beautiful Agriturismo Santa Cristina. The accommodations were more than we expected and its location among the most tranquil and beautiful I have ever visited. Having rented lovely villas in Piemonte, Toscana, Liguria, Campania on previous vacations in Italy, I believe I enjoyed the character and charisma of Santa Cristina best. Everything from the quaint town of Magliano Sabina, the charm of Luigi at Cantina dei Colli Sabini, and fine dining at Ristorante degli Angeli served us well. The location of the villa with its incredible views, however, was the best treat of all. Within easy driving reaches my group visited many historic mountain top towns in nearby Umbria and lower Tuscany, always retreating back to the villa for relaxation. We all loved Daniela who saw to our every need. She is a very amiable and able representative and caretaker for your properties. I am certain to revisit your beautiful estate in the near future. Cordiali saluti, Frank Paparello

Hi Laurentia, Sadly we are home now from our holiday in Santa Cristina, but we wanted to let you know what a fabulous holiday we all had. The Villa was supberb - excellent facilities and extremely spacious - we loved it; the children adored the swimming pool and the views all around the villa were breathtaking. The Sabina area is delightful. We love all the little villages in the surrounding area, it is so beautiful and peaceful and the people are exceptionally friendly and welcoming. We were especially pleased that the area is so unspoiled and not filled with tourist shops and trappings. We are so impressed with the holiday that we would like to come back next year. Many thanks for all your help with the holiday we have just had and we look forward to hearing from you soon about our holiday in 2006. Kind regards. Tracy
