The Northern England / Yorkshire/Yorkshire Dales region

Brompton Lakes is on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales and therefore close to the heart of some of the most picturesque walking country in the UK. Yorkshire offers visitors plenty to see and do with a whole host of tourism features, areas of great natural beauty and picturesque market towns to choose from.
The Richmond / Easby area
Brompton Lakes sits on the edge of Swaledale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, close to the tiny, picturesque village of Easby, famous for Easby Abbey, a much-visited and well-loved historical landmark founded by Premonstratensian monks in 1152. The Abbey ruins are free to visitors and make a short but pleasant detour when walking into Richmond along the banks of the River Swale.
Richmond itself is a charming Georgian market town best-known for its impressive 11th century castle as well as being an eclectic melting pot of historic buildings, cobbled streets and ancient treasures. You’ll find a good choice of pubs and plenty of places to eat, as well as shops to stock up on essentials and gifts, and of course, miles and miles of the best walking and mountain bike country in England.
As well as the grand castle – set in the heart of the town - there’s further evidence of Richmond’s Roman and Norman history at every turn with illustrated historic trails throughout the town. The Market Place is the central point from which to explore the meandering cobbled streets and nearby river walks dominated by high views of the castle walls, dating back to 1080 and said to be the oldest remaining walls in Britain. Architectural history abounds – such as the popular and recently-restored Georgian Theatre and Museum (the oldest of its kind in Britain) and Scollards Hall, one of England’s most ancient domestic buildings.
There are plenty to do and see at Brompton Lakes, its main beauty being that you can set your own pace. In fact it is the ideal holiday location for everyone, be they couples looking for a peaceful getaway or families with children; walking groups, cyclists and other outdoor types and, of course, angling enthusiasts. The two lakes are well stocked with coarse fish (mainly carp) and guests are very welcome to fish. We also have fishing rights on the River Swale and there is easy access to around ¾ mile of river bank where grayling, wild brownie, dace and perch can be caught.
Use of the tennis court and of our range of mountain bikes is free and being at the heart of some of the most stunning countryside that Yorkshire has to offer there’s plenty to see and do. We’re also located just a few miles from the picturesque town of Richmond and within easy reach of a number of places of historic and natural interest. Whether you’re staying for a few days or a few weeks you’ll find Brompton Lakes to be as active or as relaxing as you want it to be.

€œFab location and accommodation! Plenty of peace and quiet and feel-good factor. We loved visiting The Station, Easby Abbey (great walks), Durham (cathedral is something special!) and Newcastle for a drink by the Tyne! Will definitely return!
“Had a great week, lodge superb, location wonderful. Staff very friendly and helpful. Love the area and will certainly return to Brompton Lakes – thank you!
“Our visits here have been outstanding. The idyllic setting and ambience is something to behold. The layout of the complex and high quality of the lodges is impressive, as is the decor and design.
