The Northern England / Yorkshire/Yorkshire Dales region
The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline. A haven for walkers, the area also boasts great cycling, gliding, riding and fishing, whilst North York Moors Railway is the perfect way to enjoy the beautiful scenery in a more relaxed setting. Visit the market towns of Pickering or Thirsk; the latter famous for its links with the English country vet and author, James Herriot.
Nearby, some of Yorkshire’s best-loved villages including Thornton-le-Dale and Rosedale Abbey offer a taste of village life, as does Goathland, ‘Aidensfield’ in the TV series ‘Heartbeat’. Finally, stop off at Castle Howard and Duncombe Park, two of Britain’s most historic stately homes situated in breathtaking parklands and gardens. The cliffs, sandy beaches and smugglers’ caves of the Yorkshire coastline are a haven for beachcombers and coastal walkers.
Discover the quaint fishing villages of Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes, with their brightly coloured fishing boats. Finally, there’s the historic city of York, with its interactive Viking Centre, Roman walls, medieval streets, vibrant shops and gothic York Minster cathedral.
The Richmond / Gilling West area
As winner of the "Yorkshire in Bloom" award, the peaceful Dales village of Gilling West is an incredibly attractive place. Situated in lovely rolling countryside, this pretty, small town is just a few miles to the north of the popular market town of Richmond. With its Georgian Theatre and ruined medieval castle overlooking the River Swale, Richmond not only provides a wide range of amenities but also a number of exciting attractions. Gilling West itself boasts a lovely old church, two pubs - both of which serve excellent food – as well as a village shop and post office. With fishing available near by and a maze of footpaths and bridleways, this is an ideal location for those looking to explore the lovely countryside of Swaledale and Teesdale.

Guestbook for 674 - The Dovecote
The location of the property was beautiful - we particularly enjoyed the hot tub. The owners were very friendly and made us feel very welcome.

,Dovecote is in an excellent location, peaceful with lovely views. Although there are other cottages on the site we didn't feel at all cramped or overlooked. It's just a few minutes walk to the village with a shop and pubs, and a few miles (a nice walk) to Richmond. The owners were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. We were in a group aged 17 - 70+ and all of us enjoyed it very much.

,The owners were kindness personified, nothing was too much trouble for them. Their desire to ensure that we had an enjoyable holiday was outstanding. The walks from the cottage were superb, especially the Jaggers' Way walk. Do try the Copper Canyon beer at the Angel Inn.
