About the home
Located in peaceful parkland between Swaledale and Teesdale, our private Yorkshire Dales country cottage offers the perfect setting for exploring 3 stunning National Parks - the Yorkshire Dales, Yorkshire Moors and the Lake District. Add to this the lovely seaside town of Whitby and the scenically beautiful Yorkshire Heritage Coast and you have an abundant choice of outdoor activities including mountain biking, golf, hiking, climbing, caving, cycling, horse riding, paragliding and water sports. Superb historical monuments and attractions are also nearby, including iron age camps, castles, abbeys, Dales villages and the bustling market town of Richmond – voted England’s favourite market town - with its full range of shops, cinema, theatre and craft workshops. York, Newcastle, Gateshead, Harrogate and Leeds are within easy reach, offer great shopping and are packed with museums, world-class concert halls and art galleries. People travel miles to sample local Yorkshire produce and real ales at the many high quality restaurants and country inns within a few miles of our cottage. Children can roam freely to explore the nearby streams, rivers and woodland and love the attractions at the Forbidden Corner and Lightwater Valley, 30 minutes' drive away.
As you drive through the high electric gates and sweep into the spacious driveway you know the stunning architecture of the Coach House will make your stay a special one, whether you are entertaining in the cosy dining room, cooking on the Aga with friends in the roomy kitchen, sitting by the fire in the spacious lounge or simply relaxing with a good read in the light and airy conservatory or mezzanine. Children will love this place - they can explore and play safely to their hearts' content whilst parents can relax and enjoy this rather special Grade II listed home with all the modern conveniences.

Dating from 1820 and fully renovated in 2000, the Coach House was originally part of Stanwick Hall (dismantled, sadly, in 1922) the home of the Duchess of Northumberland. In addition to the spacious Master Bedroom suite on the first floor with a mezzanine, ensuite bathroom and south-facing balcony, the house has a ground floor wing. Rooms in this part of the house overlook the beautiful, private gardens and the 3 double bedrooms next to the house bathroom means that 2 families can enjoy lots of space and privacy. Decorated to a high standard, with hardwood flooring and 300 year old listed sandstone pillars in the impressive entrance hall, the Coach House is stylishly furnished and very well equipped. You will enjoy fast broadband internet access; high quality hi-fi in the lounge for music lovers; very well equipped kitchen with a 5 burner gas hob in addition to the Aga, NEFF combination microwave and electric fan oven, juicer, bread maker, ice cream maker, 2 fridges, dishwasher, qualiy stereo and beautiful garden views.
Further details outdoors:
Range of garden furniture and sun-loungers and barbecue. Parking for up to 5 cars. Walled gardens and electric gates give total privacy.

The Coach House is situated in peaceful, rolling countryside between the River Swale and the Tees, on the ancient site of the impressive 2000 year old Brigantes settlement. Children will love exploring the Coach House and its gardens, playing table tennis or playing on their bikes on the private roads. There is an abundance of historical monuments within 20 minutes' drive - castles, abbeys, earthworks, villages and towns to name but a few. Walkers will love the Yorkshire Dales, England's largest and most impressive National Park is just 15 minutes' drive away and the Lake District is just over an hour's drive with sailing, hiking, wind surfing and much more. Enjoy horse riding from the nearby stables (you can walk there!) on the perfect network of bridleways or play a round of golf at the nearby course at Richmond in the middle of beautiful countryside. Going slightly further afield, explore the stunning North Yorkshire coastline and enjoy the delights of Whitby, just over an hour's drive from here, or take a trip up the A1 for 40 minutes to a worldclass concert at the Sage Gateshead or a contemporary art exhibition at the Baltic.
The Richmond / Stanwick St John area
Richmond is 8 miles away and has an ancient catle and abbey, swimming pool, tennis courts, golf course, cinema, full range of shops selling local produce, quality restaurants and beautiful riverside walks in National Trust woodland.
