The Emilia Romagna region

Emilia-Romagna is an administrative region of Northern Italy comprising the two historic regions of Emilia and Romagna. It forms a rough triangle, bounded on the East by the Adriatic Sea, on the North by the Po river and on the South by the Appennine range; these two linear features, with the Via Aemilia, and the A1 highway and the railway that run close and parallel to it, give an unusually regular structure to the whole region except for the easternmost part. Emilia-Romagna is divided into nine provinces: Piacenza, Reggio Emilia, Parma, Modena, Bologna, Ferrara, Ravenna, Forlì/Cesena, Rimini.
The name Emilia-Romagna has roots in the Ancient Rome legacy in these lands. Emilia refers to via Emilia, an important Roman way connecting Rome to the northern part of Italy. Romagna is a corruption of Romània; when Ravenna was the capital of the Italian portion of the Byzantine Empire, the Lombards extended the official name of the Empire to the lands around Ravenna.Emilia-Romagna was part of the Etruscan world and in following was past on to the Romans, who built it the Aemilian Way, for which the region was named after. The coastal area of Emilia, which was ruled under the Byzantines from 540 to 751, became known as the separate region of Romagna. In the Middle Ages, the history of both Emilia and Romagna was the history of its individual cities. In the 16th century, most of these were included into the Papal States, but the territory of Parma and Piacenza and Modena remained independent until Emilia- Romagna was included into the Italian kingdom in 1859-1861.
Riccione is situated in the extreme south of Emilia Romagna, at the border of "Marche", the region of Urbino (with his "Palazzo Ducale"), Pesaro (the town of Gioacchino Rossini), Recanati (the town of Giacomo Leopardi).
The Riccione area
Experience Riccione: water parks, theme parks, cultural events, literary and cinema contests, art and philatelic exhibitions that fill tourists’ days and attract the most prestigious television and radio shows. Live your precious holiday in Riccione, where every day is different – ready to fascinate and surprise you.
Ever morning, the bathing establishments offer the spectacle of a clean orderly beach, 70 lifeguards take care of tourists’ safety, in the shade of approximately 3,500 beach umbrellas and tents and every guest experiences the dream of a long awaited gratifying holiday. Then there are parties, areas dedicated to sports, areas for children and everything else one’s imagination dreams of and reality confirms.
Many people are unaware that besides the sparkling life on the coast there is another dimension to Riccione: the splendid nearby countryside. Just a very short distance away you can find breathtaking scenery and fascinating castles and fortresses rich in history, where the epic deeds of the ancient Malatesta lords still live on. And moreover, just a few hours' journey from Riccione, by car, rail or bus, brings you to some of the greatest art heritage cities in Italy: by car you arrive in Urbino in 40 minutes, Ravenna in 1 hour, Bologna in 1 hour, Venice in 2 hours 30 minutes, Florence in 2 hours 30 minutes, Rome in 3 hours.
The Adriatic coast with its 21 theme parks, concentrates in little more than sixty kilometers squared, is the factory of fun and emotions, reign of children, where all it is possible also for adults.
Riccione is rightly called “a town for children” because it offers services and high-quality hospitality built expressly for its youngest guests.
An amazing adventure in Riccione begins on the beach: a calm and safe sea, many kinds of services and facilities such as bathing-huts, beach umbrellas, a daily entertainment, fun and sports activities, games and toys, and baby sitter services make your children’s stay special and unique.

Guestbook for Residence Novella
"Thank you for our stay at Residence Novella.
Richard and I had a lovely time and found the apartment to be ideal both in location and facilities. During our stay we visited Florence, Venice, Urbino and Bologna. Riccione is in a very good location for touring around and we found it very interesting using the trains.
Thank you once again - I will recommend your apartments to anyone who is looking for somewhere to stay in Italy.
Sue and Richard - South Yorkshire - England"
"The apartment was pretty much as expected from the website and very satisfactory and well equipped with a friendly owner. One small point is that the nearest beaches would be private in high summer but this did not apply in late September when we went.
Sue M.Q. and daughter, Dublin - Ireland"
"Madame Laura,
Nous vous remercions pour le bon acceuil et le bon séjour que nous avons passé chez vous, nous gardons un bon souvenir de ce passage et nous espérons revenir.
Meilleures salutations.
