The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region

The Dordogne region in the South west of France is still one of the most beautiful unspoilt regions in Europe, from rolling hills with vineyards and sunflowers and fruit and veg. of every description , to flowing rivers where canoeing and fishing and any other water sport can be enjoyed , the markets are the best farmer markets in France with Riberac considered one of the best (10 kms away)Beautiful villages in any direction( Aubeterre just 8kms away one of the prettiest villages in France with the largest monolithic underground church in Europe , with the quaint streets lined with artisan shops ) St Emillion , a medieval village famous world wide for its red wines is situated on a hill overlooking the Dordogne valley .
Les Simons is in the beautiful diverse Dordogne , but on the cusp of the Charante which has distinct countryside of its own , beautiful beaches within less than 2 hours , world famous Royan and La Rochelle just up the autoroute for a different day out with unsurpassed views of the French farming communities .
Bordeaux is less than 2hrs down the auto route , its like a smaller version of Paris ,(great shopping) with its famous Medoc wine area Chateau Margaux and Rothchild to mention just a few , if you are interested in Wines or just curious great day out .
The Riberac / St Paul Lizonne area
Riberac is the closest big town with everything you might need , huge supermarkets , shops , best markets in the areas , and all kinds of leisure activities .It is situated on the river Donne so has all kinds of river activities , there are great restaurants , thai , italian and of course French in all price ranges , we found great choices of food and great service and even if you are dont speak French most people speak a little bit of English and the menus are often translated , no problem ordering .
Down the hill from the house is a little village St Severin 1.5kms with Spar supermarket , restaurant and Boulangerie .
Around the corner on the way into the village is a hotel restaurant owned by a really nice young couple , they have 9 on suite rooms and run one of the best restaurant we have ever eaten in , the chef is English and the food is all fresh and mostly home grown with an excellent choice for the English palate with an French flair.

'Les Simons' is a great choice for those who really want to get away from the crowds and enjoy a peaceful holiday in a quiet setting. We found the accommodation very comfortable offering a good range of facilities and a large open plan kitchen come dining area. The weather was sunny and allowed us to take full advantage of the large pool and also enjoy many evenings relaxing on the patio after a barbeque. It was just a ten minute walk into St. Severin where a local market was held every week . Our children enjoyed their visits to the english bookstore and the mini-golf in St. Severin.. We enjoyed many day trips to interesting and historiical places including Riberac, Perigeaux, St. Emilion, Sarlat and also the historic caves of Lascaux. We hope to retorn here in the near future as we really enjoyed our two week stay . |

We stayed at this property over the Christmas period, but we will definitely be returning. The gite has absolutely everything you need. The owners have thought of it all, and it's a real home from home. It's very clean, welcoming, bright and airy. Personally I also like the idea that the owners don't take a cleaning/damage deposit, just leave as you find, and if you happen to break something, replace/repair it. Simple. The kitchen, dining room and lounge are open plan and spacious. The bathroom and bedrooms are also generous sizes. We sat out and had a bbq on Christmas day, which was great. There is plenty of garden furniture for dining and relaxing. The pool is huge, we will definitely be returning in the summer with our children!!!! |

We had a fantastic time, luckily the weather was still good, we were able to swim and have bbqs. The accommodation was perfect and the lovely lady caretaker was so helpful and accommodating. Within short distance of local restaurants and shops, not forgetting the market, which was amazing. We made the effort to acknowledge the local people who were very helpful and spoke more English than we anticipated - shame on us English!! We did not want to come home a week wasn't long enough. I have already put this on my facebook page. This lovely place has a very friendly, family feel to it. Response: Thank you for taking the time for the 5 star review |
